The Flame

I light a candle
Set it down softly
Can't see the light glow
It's for the warmth I yearn

I skirt the edges
Then touch the fire
Can't feel the flames now
Though they must burn

I lie in the bed
Pull up the covers
No one's beside me
There is no one at home

I go to dreaming
Awash in the sky there
See all the stars shine
Yet I'm still alone

Waking to noises
Fear overcomes me
I lay in silence
There are no words to say

I feel a movement
Covers are lifting
It's much to late now
I can't run away

I hear a sound
There in the darknest
Brushing my earlobe
And the fear is no more

You lie beside me
Flame is now burning
Your tender whisper
It tells what's in store
