Robert Plant was born on August 20, 1948. Before he joined Zeppelin, "Percy" was in a number of other bands which included the Delta Blues Band of Joy, and Hobbstweedle.Plant was recommended by Bad Company singer, Paul Rodgers. Robert, growing tired of Hobbstweedle, jumped at the chance. He later recommended Bonham, the drummer for the third band of Joy. Robert married his first wife Maureen, in 1968, and had two sons and a daughter with her. They divorced towards the end of Led Zeppelin's exsistance. His first son, Karac, died of a respiratory infection in 1977. The track on In Through The Out Door, All My Love, is dedicated to Karac. It is also one of the two tracks written by any Zeppelin members rather than Page. Plant and Jones co-wrote both All My Love and South Bound Saurez. Plant is responsible for all the lead vocals, 99% of the background vocals, and harmonica. Plant also played bass occassionally when Jones went to keyboard, and less often, guitar. Since Zeppelin's demise in 1980, Plant has released five solo albums: Pictures at Eleven, Principles of Moments, Shaken and Stirred, Now and Zen, and Manic Nirvina. Plant also sings lead vocals on two of the tracks on Page's solo album, Outrider. He also formed a band called the Honeydrippers, in which Page and his former Yardbird friend, Jeff Beck were members. Of course, he has now rejoined with Page to record two albums, No Quarter: Unledded and Walking into Clarksdale. Plant's symbol on the fourth album uses the feather of Ma'at, the Egyptian goddess of justice and fairness and is the emblem of a writer. In the past, Plant has said that it comes from the ancient Mu civilization. |
