WELL I DID IT I BOUGHT A RACE CAR!I GOT TIRED OF LOSING TO SUPPOSED STREET CARS SO WE STEPPED UP AND BOUGHT A COMPETETIVE CAR!


I KNOW I SAID I WOULD NEVER BUY A CAR THAT SAW TRAILER TIME MORE THAN DRIVING TIME BUT A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE SPENT FIVE YEARS BUILDING UP THIS CAR AND WENT TO THE TRACK WITH IT ONCE AND DECICED HE WANTED MORE OF A STREET CAR!SO HE SOLD IT TO ME!IT IS AN 85 MUSTANG GT AND IT WAS BUILT BY DAVE NELSON,OF D&D PERFORMANCE (D&D PERFORMANCE WIXOM MI (248-926-6220).D&D DID THE REAR ENDAND MOST OF THE LITTLE STUFF SHOCKS SPRINGS ETC.,THE SHORTBLOCK WAS BUILT BY HOLBROOK,THE HEADS WERE DONE BY KERI @ PORTWORKS AND THE CHASSIS AND EXHAUST ,HEADERS AND MOST OTHER CHASIS PARTS SUCH AS MOTORPLATE AND ALL PARTS THAT NEEDED TO BE SPECIAL MADE WERE DONE BY STEVE GREBECK RACE CRAFT (COMMERSE MI 248-669-5772.ALOT OF THANKS GO OUT TO DAVE FOR SELLING ME THIS CAR AND TO ALL THE FOLKS WHO HELPED GET THIS CAR TOGETHER.ON THE SECOND TIME TO THE TRACK WITH THE CAR I MADE THREE PASSES THE BEST ONE WAS A 10.23 @131.6 AND THIS WAS ON THE MOTOR!ON THE FOUTH PASS OF THE DAY THE TRANS BROKE!I HAD IT FIXED AGAIN AND IT BROKE AGAIN!%#^#@SO AFTER THE LAST TIME IT BROKE WE CALLED HAROLD @ DYNAMIC AND HAD HIM BUILD US A MIGHTY MITE C-4 AND WE HAVENT HAD A TRANS PROBLEM SINCE!I RECOMMEND DYNAMIC TO EVERYONE THAT I SEE BECAUSE THEY ARE A SMALL COMPANY AND YOU GET THAT PERSONEL TOUCH ,THEY ACCUALLY REMEMBERED ME WHEN I CALLED THEM TO TELL THEM THE TRANS WAS WORKING GREAT!BUT THE CAR WAS GEARED A LITTLE TO HIGH (4.30)TO RUN ON THE HOSE SO I HAD TO GEAR IT DOWN (3.73)DON JR SET UP THE NEW GEAR FOR US AND I THINK THAT WAS A GREAT DECISSION AS THE 4.30 I PULLED OUT STILL LOOK GREAT WITH THIS GEAR I WENT A BEST OF 10.44@130.5 IN 90 DEG WEATHER ON DOT LEGAL TIRES ON THE MOTOR(MICKEY THOMPSON ET STREETS) SO IT WAS OFF TO BOWLING GREEN FOR THE WORLD FORD FINALS HAVING NEVER TRIED THE NITROUS!WELL WE GOT THE NITROUS SORTED AROUND BUT UNFORTUNETLY A HASTILY DONE VALVE LASH BEFORE THE STREET DRIVE GAVE US AN OIL LEAK FROM THE VALVE COVER!TALK ABOUT MAKING YA SICK DRIVE YOUR CAR FOR 30 MILES SMOKING LIKE A CHEVY KNOWING WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BUT NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE HOOD TO FIX IT!WHEN WE GOT BACK FROM THE CRUISE WE WAITED TO START QUALIFYING BUT IN OUR CLASS WE CANT OPEN THE HOOD TO FIX THE PROBLEM TILL AFTER THE 3 PASSES!SO WE JUST DROVE AROUND THE WATER BOX AND MADE SOME EASY RUNS 11.0 AND A 10.40 AND BEFORE WE COULD MAKE OUR THIRD RUN WE GOT DISQUALIFIED FOR AN OIL LEAK!MAN DID THAT SUCK!SO BOWLING GREEN WAS A WASHOUT!THEN THE NEXT FORD RACE WE WENT TO WAS THE FUN FORD EVENT IN NORWALK WE WERE READY FOR THIS ONE!OR WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IF WE HAD GOT THERE ON TIME!WE WERE UNLOADING THE CAR FROM THE TRAILER WHEN THE 30 MILE DRIVE WAS PULLING OUT!NIKI WAS GETTING THE PAPER WORK WHILE I WAS CHANGING JETS IN THE NOS PLATE SYSTEM WELL I GOOFED! AND BACKED AROUND THE JETS IN MY HASTE(i have been drag racing and street racing for 13 years and havent made as many mistakes in those years as i did this year, both of these mistakes Norwalk & Bowling Green would have been avoided if i had spent more time on the car)AFTER THE DRIVE WE WERE UP TO RACE ON MY FIRST PASS THE CAR FELT AWESOME TRACK WAS AWESOME UNTIL I SHIFTED INTO 3 RD AND THE CAR LAID DOWN!SO I LET OFF THE HOSE AND COASTED TO A 9.88@130 KNOWING THAT I HAD LOST AT LEAST ONE PLUG!I THINK WE WERE SECOND AT THAT POINT BUT IT DIDNT MATTER CAUSE I KNEW I COULDNT SPRAY ANYMORE PASSES!SO THE NEXT RUN I WENT AN ALL OUT MOTOR PASS OF AN 11.20 THEN I NOTICED THE TEMP SKYROCKETING (WAS THIS A BAD LUCK DAY OR WHAT!)IT SEEMS MY WATER PUMP AND FANS STOPPED WORKING ON THAT PASS!SO WITH THE TEMP UP 280 DEGREES I SAT IN THE CAR AND WAITED FOR OUR THIRD RUN,IF THERE WASNT SO MANY CARS (OVER 120 IN TRUESTREET)AND A LITTLE BREEZE IWOULDNT HAVE MADE MY 3RD RUN BUT THE TEMP WAS DOWN TO 220 SO I MADE OUR FINAL PASS OF THE DAY A VERY FAST 11.0 (NOT BAD ON 5 CYLINDERS!)WHICH GAVE ME A 3 PASS AVERAGE OF 10.55 I THINK AND A 10TH PLACE FINISH!WHEN I SHOULD HAVE HAD A SECOND OR MAYBE A FIRST IF WE WOULD HAVE STEPPED UP THE CAR!SO I WENT BACK TO THE PITS AND STARTED PULLING PLUGS I HAD 3 PLUGS WITH TIPS BURNED RIGHT OFF ALL ON THE DRIVERS SIDE # 6,7 AND 8. SO I GOT SOME NEW PLUGS AND FOUND THE NITROUS PROBLEM AND THE NEXT DAY THE CAR WENT 9.60S ALL DAY LONG!BOY WAS I MAD AT MYSELF!SO I WAS READY TO GIVE UP THIS CLOSED HOOD RACING AND START IN A CLASS I COULD WORK ON THE CAR ON IN BETWEEN ROUNDS!BUT THEN DONNIE CALLED ME AND SAID THAT THERE WAS GONNA BE ANOTHER TRUE STREET RACE IN CANADA ABOUT 2 1/2 HOURS FROM HERE SO I DECIDED TO TRY LADY LUCK ONE MORE TIME I ALSO DECIDED TO TRY LADY PREPERATION AND GET THE CAR RIGHT!WELL DURRING THE STREET DRIVE WHILE OTHERS WERE WORRYING ABOUT HEAT OUR CAR WAS A WHOPPING 140 DEGREES!(so far so good)BUT IT WAS A LONGER DRIVE THAN USSUAL OR IT SEEMED, SOMEONE TOLD ME WE WENT 40 MILES ,I DIDNT CARE I KNEW WE WERE OK ON FUEL,BACK IN THE PITS EVERYONE WAS CHANGING TIRES (BUT US) I WAS DETERMINED TO GET SOME USE OUT OF THE DOT TIRES WE HAD TO RUN IN BOWLING GREEN AS MY SLICKS HADN'T ARRIVED IN TIME FOR THIS RACE!SO WE GOT THE CALL TO THE LINE AND I MADE MY FIST RUN OF 3 AND IT WAS A 9.56@145 AND THE CAR WAS PERFECT (A LTTLE LOOSE ON THE LINE BUT GOOD ENUFF!SO WE GOT BACK TO THE LINE FOR OUR SECOND PASS, SHUT DOWN THE CAR FOR A ABOUT 5 MIN WAITING FOR THE OTHERS TO RUN THEN MADE OUR SECOND PASS A 9.64@144 THEN BACK AROUND FOR THE THIRD PASS AND IT WAS A 9.63@144 I WAS A HAPPY CAMPER!WE HAD WON OUR FIRST TRUE STREET TYPE RACE WITH A 9.61 AVERAGE!(ON STREET TIRES NO LESS!)MAN WHAT A RUSH I HOPE EVERYONE CAN GET A CHANCE TO WIN THIS TYPE OF EVENT,IT WAS AWESOME AND THE PEOPLE AT THE RACE WERE SO FRIENDLY!TRUE STREET RACERS ARE THE BEST OF CLASS!NO OTHER RACERS WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF PRO 5.0 PUT AS MUCH STRESS ON THERE CARS AS THESE GUYS DO AND MOST OF US COULDNT DO IT BY OUR SELVES SO A BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED OUT AND MOSTLY TO MY WIFE FOR PUTTING IN SO MUCH TIME ON THE CAR CLEANING AND HELPING WITH ALL THE JOBS THAT NEVER GET MUCH CREDIT , AS WELL AS D&D FOR THERE HELP AND STEVE GREBECK FOR THE SAFE CAR .WITHOUT NIKI I AM SURE Muscle Mustangs wouldnt have shot the feature on our car and I wouldnt have had every thing ready for the race!Well thats it for now see you all in texas for our final true street race of the season ! WELL WE JUST GOT BACK FROM TEXAS AND IT ISANT GOOD NEWS THIS TIME!WE PUT ON THE SLICKS BUT HAD AN EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE COME LOSE AND RUB ON A SLICK MAKING THE CAR OUT OF CONTROL!I ALMOST WRECKED THE CAR ON 2 PASSES!CAN YOU SAY SCAREY?IN TEXAS I DID NOTICE A COUPLE OF THINGS IN TRUE STREET 1.SOME OF MY COMPETETERS WERE USING W TIRE OR 11 INCH SLICKS 2.SOME WERE USEING REAR END SETUPS THAT DONT COMPLY WITH THE RULES (COIL OVER SHOCKS,NOT MOUNTED IN STOCK LOCATION 3.EVEN THOUGH I DIDNT WIN AND THEY WERNT VERY STRICK WITH THE RULES WE STILL HAD FUN!!I THINK WE FINISHED 3RD OR 4TH (NOT SURE AS WE LEFT TO GO VISIT RELATIVES)WITH A 9.90 AVERAGE.THE PASSES WERE 10.43@130 9.88@116 AND 9.60@143 WELL THAT IT FOR NOW THANKS TO EVERYONE P.S.WE ARE NOT DEAD IN THIS CLASS YET WE HAVE A COUPLE TRICKS UP OUR SLEAVE FOR NEXT YEAR I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED!

THIS NEXT ONE I REALLY LIKE AS I DONT SPEND MUCH TIME WITH MY NEPHEW AND HE HAD AN INSTANT LIKING OF THE MUSTANG!I LOVED IT ,BUT I THINK IT GOT MY SISTER WORRIED!SHE SAID NO RACE CARS ,NO MOTORCYCLES(PSST SHAWN I WILL HELP YA OUT MAN DONT WORRY>

with safety and speed in mind,not to mention precision(the roll cage is a work of art!)
