So what do you guys want to know? I mean, my page is all about my interests. Oh, what do I look like? *snicker* Hmm, I suppose that is one of the first things people like to know about others. Despite the fact, as it clearly states in my Psych textbook, we rank physical appearance last in importance. *grin*
Anyways, I'm 5'3" (even though at my last physical, my doc claimed I've shrunk close to an inch and am only 5'2" ... but that's certainly not right *laugh*), 135 lbs. (no I'm not one of those girls that hates revealing her weight), shoulder-length straight black hair, pulled back in a ponytail, wire rim glasses (yes, I'm part of that population that's visually impared -- i.e. blind as a bat w/o their glasses *grin*) .... And I'm Taiwanese, tho I was born in the USA. No, I don't look like the chick in the picture (of either the Asian chick or the monkey, you wise guys!). Lost the bowl cut years ago ...
I don't speak any other foreign language aside from Spanish, and I learned that throughout high school and for a semester in college. I most certainly don't know any Chinese, and that's always bugged me, because I can't even talk to my paternal grandparents since they don't know any English. I really like speaking Spanish, though. It's always fun to pretend to know what you're saying. Hmm, I think I do that when I speak English ... I'm also trying to teach myself sign-language. The idea of talking without speaking has always fascinated me.
As you can probably guess, I love music. I played the piano for about 7-8 years, all prior to high school. When I learned "Hail to the Redskins," that was it. I didn't need to know anything else. *grin* Just kidding. I just found I didn't have time for it anymore.
I also played the violin for three or so years, same problem. I've always wanted to learn to play the guitar, the drums, and the sax. In terms of music listening, though ... I like pretty much everything. Country and hard-core rap are the only things that I can't really stand ... although with the "help" of 2 close friends, I'm learning to tolerate country. I'm primarily a pop/rock type of gal, though.
Hobbies? I love reading. Preferably
action-adventure, mystery/suspense (John Grisham, Tami Hoag, John Sandford, Stephen Hunter, and Jefferey Deaver), and some horror (Stephen King and Thomas Harris). Comic books, too. *grin* I collect stamps -- I have over 2000 if I'm not mistaken, from all around the world. My mom and my brother got me started with that when I was little, and I haven't stopped since. And I don't collect for the possible cash I could get years down the road, but rather for fun. I mean, stamps are pretty if you've ever really looked at them. And who ever knew there were half-cent stamps? Can you imagine?
I also play tons of sports. I'm the only real athlete in my family. Basketball is by far my favorite. I'm
a point guard and shooting guard known for speed, defense, and deadly three's. I played for my high school, 2 years JV (sophomore year MVP) and 2 years varsity. I wasn't exactly a marquee player, but I was dedicated and loved the game. I still play whenever I get a chance. I like playing flag football, too, although my body hasn't (as of late) held up well to that. I'm best as a wide receiver and cornerback. I like playing tennis (read "I like to ATTEMPT to play tennis" in that statement), rollerblading, mini-golfing, bowling, and biking. I'm also attempting to learn taekwon do, and have recently tried seadooing with my boyfriend Tom, despite the fact I swim about as well as I speak Chinese *smile*.
I love watching sports, too. I am a VERY avid
Washington Redskins fan, and it's not just because I'm from D.C., and nor did I jump on the bandwagon back in '92 when they went 17-2 to win Super Bowl XXVI (37-24 over Buffalo if I'm not mistaken). Actually, it stems back to when I was little watching football with my brother. He liked the Dallas Cowboys (boo! hiss!) because they wore blue uniforms (his favorite color is blue). I saw Dallas lose to the Redskins, so naturally, I had to like the Redskins. Ever since, that's been the extent of any brother-sister rivalry in my family.
I also LOVE watching pro hockey -- the St. Louis Blues in particular. Yes, I jumped on the bandwagon (2000 President's Trophy winner!) but I fell in love with the game, not just the team. It just so happened I go to school in St. Louis. I've been to about 5-6 games so far, and even Round 1, Game 2 of the 2000 Playoffs (St. Louis v. San Jose)! Nothing beats hockey live ... you can see clearly regardless of where you're sitting.
Other than that ... I'm also really interested in diversity issues. I have this idealized version of a world where no one ever distinguishes anyone else based on anything but their inner character, but I don't know how it will come about. Anyway, in my pursuit of this goal, I helped revive/found S.T.O.M.P. Force at WashU -- Students Taking On Multicultural Pursuits. I love that group and I'm proud of all we've accomplished.
If you haven't noticed, I'm a babbler, too. *grin* Anything else you wanna know, just ask.
