Day in, day out. This song points out the endless pit that most of us fall into when we do as society says we should do, and neglect what we want (should) to do. I see the Candyman as the wants of the Sweet Tooths, us, who are sticking to this horrid Weight Loss Program which is society's expectations. See also: Genius.
He wakes up in the morning
Does his teeth bite to eat and he's rolling
Never changes a thing
Every morning he wakes up, does the same thing, and never changes his routine
The week ends, the week begins
Time passes without noticing, without change
She thinks, we look at each other
Wondering what the other is thinking
But we never say a thing
We look and wonder about each other, but never share how we feel to each other
And these crimes between us grow deeper
Resentment (over the small stuff probably) builds day by day
Take these chances
If you take all the things you've always wanted to do
Place them in a box until a quieter time
And wait until "the time is right," or there's enough money, until it's safer, or whatever
Lights down, you up and die
That right time may never come, and you'll never do what you've always wanted in life (regretably)
Goes to visit his mommy
She feeds him well his concerns he forgets them
His mom puts aside his worries when he visits
And remembers being small
And he remembers being young (the safer days)
Playing under the table and dreaming
When ideas could be made and chances could be taken
Take these chances
Place them in a box until a quieter time
Lights down, you up and die
Driving along this highway
All these cars and upon the sidewalk
People in every direction
No words exchanged, no time to exchange when
With all these people around, they all ignore each other
All the little ants are marching
These people are like indistinguishable ants
Red and black antennae waving
There are a few minute outer differences in appearance but drones just the same
They all do it the same
They're all doing what they think should be done
They all do it the same way
They always stay safe, never take chances
Candyman tempting the thoughts of a
Everyday people want to do something different
Sweet tooth tortured by a weight loss
But are tortured by the confines of society
Program cutting the corners
And end up only cutting corners in society, never fully doing what they want
Loose end, loose end cut cut
On the fence, not to offend
When decisions come up, they give in to keep from offending others
Cut cut cut cut
Take these chances
Place them in a box until a quieter time
Lights down, you up and die
Lights down you up and die
We all die sometime anyway, do what you wanted while you're here!
