Granola
In a large mixing bowl mix together:

6 cups old fashioned oatmeal
3/4 cup honey (sometimes I use a combination of honey and light karo syrup)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup cooking oil
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 cup walnuts (pecans; or half pecans half walnuts)
1 cup roasted sunflower seeds
2 tsp. vanilla

add:
1 cup dates
1 cup raisins
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
4 cups (approx.) bran flakes or  oat flakes

Divide onto 4 cookie sheets
Bake at about 200 - 250 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes.
WATCH CAREFULLY - it burns very easily!

To store it after - put it into air tight containers (large zip lock bags work great)

For gift giving here are a few ideas:
Find pretty baskets (yard sales are a great source) and line with a new dish towel, put a couple bags of the granola inside

Put a few bags of the granola into a decorative tin

Get an inexpensive plastic container (i.e. Rubbermaid) and put an appliqué on to dress it up - then put a bags of granola into it
In craft departments they sell a type of appliqué that looks like it is painted on but you simply use a wooden stick to "scratch" it on - it usually costs about $2 - $5 and you'll get 5-10 designs (according to design)   - you can use this decorated plastic container for many gifts, just let your imagination go wild!!!
