The Secret of Happiness

The fairy said, "Very well," and leaned toward her and whispered in her ear. Then the good fairy vanished.
A
Faery's Lament
Upon
the westerly wind
Floating
wistfully in summer's night
Over
the giant blackthorn tree
The
faery searched for revelry.
But
on a dark country road
Found
she a boy of fourteen
Fallen
from his bicycle
And
his head cracked on a rock.
Softly
she walked to him
Tip-toe
on the grass
Until
she saw his eyes
Watching
the stars above.
A tear
fell to join the blood
That
spread behind his ear
And
fell over the road
That
lay blanketed in darkness.
The
faery smiled sadly at the boy
And
put her tiny ear to his chest
To feel
the slow rythm of his heart
That
rose and fell with each painful breath.
And
then the boy smiled
As the
pain began to dissipate;
His
watery eyes thanked sincerely
The
Faery girl at his side.
She
flew above him then
And
kissed the boy on the lips
Then
in her most beautiful voice said
"You
shan't feel any more pain tonight."
Then
faery girl then began to sing
Like
the voice of an angel
Singing
a long forgotten ballad
That
enveloped the boy in a sense of peace.
Throughout
the night the faery sang
Until
the twilight just before dawn
When
she saw he no longer smiled
Nor
opened his eyes to watch her.
She
tried to sing a happy song
No longer
for the boy but herself
To keep
the oncoming grief away
And
keep the inevitable tears from falling.
The
faery girl sang a lament
For
the boy that died that day
Who's
last moments were painless
And
blissful and peaceful in a way.
