KEEP THE PERVERT IN

Don't let Laurence O'Shea hurt a child you know

The State of South Australia is in uproar today after it was revealed that the 59 year old convicted paedophile, Laurence O'Shea, will be released from prison in August. O'Shea is evil in its rawest form. Preying upon the innocence of children, O'Shea exploits them so that they can satisfy his own sexual needs.

His criminal record dates back to October 1960, when he was jailed for indecent assault. Less than two years later, in February of 1962, he was released. However in July 1967 O'Shea was back in jail after being found guilty of indecent assault. In February 1978, O'Shea was jailed indefinitely on three assault charges. In 1980, only two years later he was released from prison. It took O'Shea only two months to get back into prison after he had breached his conditions of parole regarding children, so in 1981 he was jailed once more. O'Shea was allowed back into society in September 1983.

In April 1985, O'Shea stooped to an all time low when he ran a camp for disabled children. He was jailed for this, but the charges were later dropped, and in 1988 he was released from prison. O'Shea was imprisoned once more in July 1991 for breaching his conditions, teaching computer lessons to children and for a specific complaint against a child. He was released in August of 1994. O'Shea was sent to jail in February 1996 after he breached his conditions and had used a false name. Ten months later, O'Shea applied for a parole release, which was denied. However in April this year, O'Shea successfully applied for release.

And this is what South Australians do not want. We want to create a safe environment for our children, and do not want them exposed to social monsters like O'Shea who will damage them psychologically and physically.

A juror claimed that O'Shea should not be punished for offences that he may commit in the future, but based on his criminal record, South Australians can not be blamed for their attitude towards O'Shea. How many other lives will O'Shea destroy before he is put away for good?

The four aims of punishment are to deter, to seek retribution, to reform the offender and to protect society. It is clearly evident that O'Shea has not learnt his lesson. Time after time he commits the same offences, hurting more people and leaving a trail of destruction. He is undeterred by his imprisonments. O'Shea himself, has stated that he is unable to control his sexual urges.

Not only would it be morally wrong for society to sit back and allow this to pass, it is also putting our children in the line of danger. Laurence O'Shea does not deserve to be released, and we are adamant that our children will be protected.
