Hi! I'm Kate Maschmeyer from
Corning, NY USA. Corning is a relatively small town (12 000 people)
and houses the world headquarters for Corning, Inc., makers of Corelle,
CorningWare, and Pyrex. For an idea where Corning is in NY, Corning is
(by car) 5 hrs. from Toronto, 5 hrs. from New York City, 5 hrs. from
Washington D. C and about half an hour from Pennsylvania. For those
visual people out there, well, NY state looks a bit like a dog's head,
(NYC is at the bottom tip of an ear) and Corning is about where the
mouth would start.
I went to Holland in July 1996. My sponsor club was Corning Rotary and my
host club was Rotary Haarlem-Oost. Haarlem is a great city and a bit of a
change from the small town (12000 people, out in the middle of nowhere) of
Corning. I went to school at Eerste Christelijk Lyceum (ECL) in Haarlem
and had a wonderful time there.
