Rhodes Introduced as Defensive Coordinator

Ray Rhodes, who signed a three-year contract to be the Denver Broncos Defensive Coordinator, was introduced Monday at a press conference at the Broncos' training facility. Rhodes comes to Denver after serving in the same capacity with the Washington Redskins last season, following five seasons as Head Coach of the Green Bay Packers (1999) and Philadelphia Eagles (1995-98).
"First of all, I would like to say that I am very excited about the opportunity," Rhodes said. "I've known (Head Coach Mike Shanahan) for a lot of years and have had the chance to work with him. He is a great offensive mind and to get back and have a chance to work with him again is a privilege."
Overall Rhodes brings 20 years of NFL coaching experience to the Broncos, including nine seasons as either a Head Coach or Defensive Coordinator, following a seven-year playing career in the league as a wide receiver and defensive back with the New York Giants and 49ers in the 1970s.
Rhodes, 50, improved the Redskins' defensive ranking to fourth in the NFL in 2000 after inheriting a unit that ranked 30th the year before. He led an overall improvement by a defense that allowed the fewest first downs (254), total net yards (4,474) and points (269) by a Redskins team since 1992, and produced more sacks than any Washington club since 1991.
