"Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I know you'd ever say good-bye
...Our lives are lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance..."

Getting to know...

Karyn Anne Kowalski

"Miss K" - the teacher

Since I spend about 75 percent of my day as "Miss K," it only makes sense to introduce her first. As soon as I tell people that I teach 11th graders, I always get that "poor you" look, but to be honest, I love my job and can't imagine doing anything else. I love all my kids, even the ones who sometimes give me a headache. I teach American literature to different levels of students at Patuxent High School.

Karyn- the "real person"

Students believe that at the end of the day they lock us in our closets and that's where we stay until 7:10 the next morning. While it certainly seems that way sometimes, I do "have a life." I finally finished my Master's degree in School Counseling- trust me when I say it's been a long strange trip! I want to work on my doctorate, but I think I'll take a year off to decide what and where I'd like to do it. When I'm not working you may find me working out, caught up in a "home improvement" project, scrapbooking, having drinks with friends or watching re-runs of "Friends" and "Sex in the City."

On the weekends and in the summer, I love to travel. The year 2006 started with a trip to Florida for Spring Break. Loved Tampa and Clearwater Beach, hated Miami- although mojitos with good friends made South Beach fun. Next I'm flying to Hawaii to see two of my dearest friends get married! Then in the fall, if money isn't too tight, I'd like to do another trip to San Diego. Steelers do play the chargers and it seems to me like fate that I should go on that trip! On Sunday afternoons in the fall, you will find me either in Pittsburgh, or at any one of the local "STEELER" fan club bars, my favorite being the Purple Goose in Baltimore- either way I'm decked out in black and gold with a Yuengling in hand. During hockey season, I'm a tad more productive, but I'm still glued to the Pittsburgh hockey network and NHL Center Ice to watch the PENGUINS play!

Here you can see some pictures of what I've been up to...
