The Union of Faith
All I kept hearing Peaches say when she was on the phone with the doctor was,
”Oh, my God! Oh, My God!” over and over. I couldn’t wait any longer.
I whispered to her,” Is she alive?”
To my relief she nodded yes.
Tiny Myriah’s mouth was almost filled by the tube
that went down her throat to help her breath.
The machine that the tube was connected to made an awful swooshing noise
with every breath it made her lungs do.
She had gone all night with bad attacks of not breathing.
The doctor never left her side.
Every time he went away from her crib she would stop breathing
and would not come back on her own.
They would have to put the oxygen on her to do CPR.
Even the doctor got scared, he later told us.
Finally they had to put her on the ventilator which breathed for her.
She was also on medications through I.V’s and connected to the monitors.
She looked so pathetic it broke my heart.
Peaches was terrified that she would join her deceased sisters and brothers.
I reminded her that while she was on that machine, she can’t stop breathing.
All we had to do is wait till her little stomach was more mature.
They had found that her stomach and intestines weren’t mature
enough to handle the milk. She was put on I.V. proteins only for food.
They gave her a blood transfussion because she was also enemic.
Even so, she still gained weight but we could not hold her for a week. (ouch!)
It was a loooooooooooooong week.
I called my mother and sister and asked them to pray for her.
My mother called two nuns that lived near her.
and they prayed a Novena.
Peaches called a Reverend she knew.
who had her whole congregation praying.
A friend of mine who lost one of her twins 10 years ago,
(her story is on the Angelseekr page),
Told her brother and He had the whole congregation from his church praying.
And the nurses even prayed.
I couldn’t help but comment, " Myriah Has to get better.
We have a union of different religions! Talk about gathering together!"
Well, God gave us mercy for the next week we walked in there
and she was off of the ventilator and breathing on her own.
They still fed her by I.V. for another week but she was breathing! No tubes, no oxygen!
Not only that but another week later she was taking small amounts of milk by bottle!
Not a tube in her nose, a bottle!
They told us it takes a lot of persission to suck on a bottle and breath at the same time.
They were amazed by her quick recovery. But I wasn’t.
“Where two or more are gathered in my name, I will be there.” Jesus said.
I believe we were looking at a miracle at work.
At this moment, Myriah is in an open crib still breathing on her own.
She is taking 21 cc’s of milk and keeping it down.
She was a little quick breathing when I was there last night but we shall see.
IF she stays doing this well, next week we can see how well she nurses.
And if she does that well, maybe Peaches can take her baby home the first of Feb?
But we are warning many times, take each day one at a time.
So for now, she is breathing good, feeding good and
looking very cute in the doll clothes we bought for her.
As we closed out the year of 1999, where it started with a mighty roar
and ending in gentle kindness,
We find the coming New Year starting with a ray of hope,
and a renewed faith in our fellow man and God.
Please keep her in your prayers.
We can’t handle another set back.
Peaches has since moved into her new place.
We go each day together to see Myriah.
Hoping soon to bring her home where she can be nurtured
even more and held by her mothers aching arms.
