The following is an exerpt from a recent interview. It details an encounter between Jonathan Fisher and, fellow tennis great, Tim Henman
Mr. Fisher, I understand that you have recently had the good fortune of liaising with Tim Henman, Britain's top-ranking tennis professional. How did this meeting come about?
I completed an application in the British Tennis magazine 'Ace' for a sponsorship deal with Slazenger. I was one of the first applications they received so I was invited to a coaching session with Tim (we're on a first name basis now) and his coach David Felgate. The session took place at Queen's Club in West Kensington.
And what was the nature of this meeting?
Slazenger are looking for rising tennis stars to sponsor and promote. There were several people at the session from TV stations and BBC radio was also there. I had to give several interviews and I spoke at length to the man from BBC Radio 5.
How would you describe Mr. Henman's personality?
He is much nicer than he is portrayed in the media. He was nice to talk to and he gave us lots of help.
Was he open to socialising, or did you get the impression that it was strictly an appearance designed to bolster his lagging popularity?
NOT AT ALL!! He is a fantastic player and all the kids like him - he talked a lot to all of us. We spoke at length of course, because he knows one of my coaches, Justin.
What was your overall honest impression of the man?
He is very kind and generous and a very good tennis player.
Did you get to see him play?
Yes, he had a knock up with his coach before the coaching session began. I have seen him play before at Wimbledon.
Where you able to join in?
Oh, yes. There were twelve of us all together and they split us into two groups. We younger kids spent about an hour doing various routines with Tim and then we swapped over and we went with his coach.
Did you get the impression that he felt threatened by your prowess?
Definitely, he looked very scared when I was playing him. He is a man on the run.
Do you have any further details to provide our readers with a better understanding of this whole event?
It was WICKED!!!
What effect, if any, do you believe this interaction will have on your own tennis career?
Telling my opponents before a match that I have played with Tim Henman is a very good tactic. It will impress and intimidate them. Also if my tennis career doesn't go anywhere I can say I played with Tim Henman and he gave me a racket and autographed the case!
