1 cup packed brown sugar
3 TBS. Light Karo syrup
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp.baking soda
popped popcorn
Put one stick of butter or margarine in a med. saucepan, add one cup packed brown sugar (light OR dark it does'nt matter),add 3 TBS. Karo Syrup. Heat all ingedients over med. heat untill you start to see it bubble....then turn the heat to low and let it cook for 5 minutes (dont stir during the five minutes) Then remove from heat. Quickly add 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp baking soda, stir....then quickly pour over a large mixing bowl full of popped corn, mix it all up to get it evenly coated then enjoy!
Baked Pumpkin Seeds
ingredients
Salt
Worchestirshire Sauce (approx 1 TBS)
1/2 stick margarine or butter (equals 1/4 cup)
washed pumpkin seeds
After you've made your Halloween Jack-O-Lantern pick out all the seeds from the guts put them in a strainer (collander) and wash them off. You can bake them immediately or put them in a solution of salt water (1/2cup salt and 4 Cups water) and set aside untill you are ready to bake them. When ready to bake, strain them from the salt water solution. Melt approx 1/2 stick maragrine onto a deep cookie sheet.....then place seeds evenly as possible over the melted butter, Sprinkle Worchestershire sauce over them...you decide how much, they dont have to be soaking in it but you want to make sure they are all covered....then sprinkle salt on top (again you decide how much). Bake in a 225 dg. oven untill they start getting crispy (approx 1 hour and 45 min ) stir them around once or twice while baking.....enjoy!
White Chocolate Ghost on a Stick
ingredients:
White choclate
chocolate chip morsels
You will also need wax paper, clean dry popscicle sticks and a double boiler. If you dont have a double boiler coat a saucepan throughly with butter or margarine.
Arrange in advance popscicle sticks on a sheet of wax paper several inches apart.Melt white chocolate over low heat untill completely melted. Helpfu HInt: You may want to rub on a thin coat of margarine to the wax paper, this can make it so much easier to peel off ghosts when they set up) Carefully pour chocolate onto each stick in the shape of a ghost (basically a blob :-) After you get them all poured and chocolate is semi-set, put two choco chip morsels on each ghost for eyes. When completely cooled and hardened gently peel each ghost from wax paper and enjoy!
Cake in a Jack-O-Lantern
Ingredients:
12 to 18 oranges
1 (18-1/2oz.) pkg yellow cake mix
You'll also need Heavy Duty Foil
Cut 12 to 18 12in. squares of HEAVY DUTY foil; set aside. Cut 1-inch slice from top of each orange. Scoop out orange fruit and pulp. Leave peel intact as a baking curp. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Fill each orange peel 2/3 full with prepared cake batter. Replace top of each orange. Place one filled orange in center of foil piece. Bring foil together at top and twist to make airtight. Bake for about 20 minutes in a 325 deg oven or untill a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool. If you have had a fire going in the fireplace and it's died down to hot coals you can also place oranges into coals for about 15 minutes.....fun! Let cool....thendecorate outside of orange with a black permanent marker as a 'jack-o-lantern' face. If you have a party that requires seating you can write the place name of person on the back to add to the table decor. Wait till last minute to do this next part or you can do it while guests are there: Serve with whipped creme (canned to squirt looks better but freshly whipped is fine too) then garnish with orange and brown sprinkles on top! Yummy treat!
