Spring Fling Games

DUCKS AND COWS
This is a great way to divide a group of kids into two teams. Players close their eyes while one person goes about tapping them on their shoulders and designating them either "duck" or "cow." On a given signal the players must make their animal sounds to gather into their two teams. The ducks "quack" and the cows "moo."
DUCKS FLY
This game is similar to the game, "Simon Says." It is based on animals or things that fly. One person is the CALLER. Everyone else either stands in a line or forms a half circle with their hands at their sides. The CALLER then shouts out, "All ducks fly," and everyone begins to flap their arms twice like a duck since the statement is true. The caller continues by calling out animals or things that fly such as "robins, bats, airplanes, etc.) However, if the caller shouts out an animal that doesn't fly such as, "cats fly," or "rabbits fly" then no one should move since this is not true. If anyone moves, he or she is out of the game and must then stand next to the caller. The game ends when only one person is left after everyone else is eliminated.
LION AND LAMB TAG
Gather everyone into a circle. Pass out two blindfolds. One player is the lion and the other player is the Lamb. Whenever the lion roars the lamb must baah. When the lion catches the lamb the game stops and the lion picks another lamb. The former lamb then becomes the lion.
TREE TAG
"It" chases free players. Free players are safe as long as they are touching a tree. "It" must freeze and count up to ten. The free player must move.
SUNNY DAY TAG
You will need a sunny day for this game. "It" chases free players and when "it" steps on their shadow the free player becomes "it."
TURTLE TAG
"It" chases free players. Free players are "safe" only when they lie on their backs with feet and hands in the air.
BED SHEET PING PONG
Players stand and hold a bed sheet on opposite ends. A ping pong ball is placed onto the sheet. The sheet is then raised or lowered. The object of the game is to get the ping pong ball to fall off the other team's side.
WOLF! WOLF!
This game is a tag game. Everyone forms a large circle around the person who is "IT." (If there are a lot of children they may hold hands). This person who is "IT" is the "WOLF."  The children then chant, "Wolf! Wolf! What are you doing?" and then wait for the WOLF to say a response. The WOLF responds by saying only once an action sentence such as, "brushing my teeth," or "washing my hands," or "combing my hair," and so forth. However, if the WOLF replies with "chasing you!" The kids scatter so that they cannot be tagged by the WOLF. The first person tagged becomes the new wolf.
HAND TUG OF WAR
There are two teams of three players each. A line is drawn on the ground or floor. One person on each team is chosen the leader. The two leaders then face each other holding the other persons hands standing with the line between them. The other team players then get behind their leader and put their arms on the waists of the person in front of them. On "GO" by a caller or teacher the two teams begin to pull. The team that pulls the other team completely over the line wins. Also, if a team falls apart the other team wins. There is usually a lot of shouting in this game. (Note: Please make sure you have no more than 3 players per team for safety sake.)
UNWRAP THE CANDY BAR
This is a fun game to watch. Its for about eight people. You will need one candy bar (several if you want to play the game several times,) an oversized pair of clean gloves, a scarf, a plastic fork and knife, and a pair of dice. Everyone sits on the floor in a circle and all the objects are placed in the center. One by one everyone takes the dice and rolls it. The person who is highest goes first. The game begins by rolling the dice. The dice must roll and end with the same double number (for instance 2 - 2, or 4 - 4, and so forth). If the dice is not double, then the dice is passed on to the next person on the person's right.  Now if the dice does end up a double number then the person rolling the dice goes into the middle and gets to put on the gloves and then scarf.  He or she may then begin to unwrap the candy bar. As he or she unwraps the candy bar the dice is passed on to the next person. If the next person rolling the dice comes up with a double same number, then the person in the circle must stop whatever he or she is doing and give the glove to person who has just rolled the double dice. The new person in the middle must then start from the begin putting on the glove and scarf before unwrapping the candy bar. If anyone in the middle is able to unwrap the candy bar before anyone else can roll a double number, then he or she gets to eat the candy bar!
CROCODILE RACE
Form a team of 4 - 10 players. Stand in a straight line behind a designated leader. Each player then put their hands on the hips or shoulders of the person in front of them. Everyone then crouches down bending their knees down their heels. The newly formed "crocodile" then races against the other team(s). You could race one way to end or have them race down the field and return! If the leader goes to fast the team behind will break up.
PEBBLE TAG
This is a simple game that needs no props. All you need is a small pebble and a lot of space to run. Everyone stands in a line. One person is selected to be "IT." IT holds the pebble. IT chooses a goal about 30 feet away from the line. Everyone in line now sticks out both hands with the palms together and thumbs together. The thumbs are pointed up so that the hands form an opening. The person who is IT will then walk down the line and either pretends to put the pebble in someone's hands or gives it to someone for real. The person receiving the pebble must run to the goal and back to IT without being tagged by any of the other children. If anyone tags the person with the pebble, then he or she becomes the next IT. To make it fun guessing who has the pebble the person receiving the pebble may fake not receiving it and may choose to run at anytime towards the goal. However, he or she must commence running before IT gets to the last person in line. Usually the other players in line are all looking at one another to see if anyone has the pebble.  If the person with the pebble is successful in running to the goal and back to IT without being tagged, then he or she becomes the new IT.
CHICKEN MARKET
In this game one person is chosen to be the BUYER, another is chosen to be the GROCER, and everyone else are chickens. The persons who are chickens stand behind the GROCER. The chickens bend their knees and squat down with their hands under their lower thighs. They clasp their hands together and stay in this stooped over position during the game. The BUYER and the GROCER then have this conversation: BUYER: Do you have any good chickens? GROCER: Yes, we have some excellent delicious chickens. Would you like to try any of them? BUYER: Yes, please. Then the BUYER can go up to any chicken in line and touch them gently (in safe appropriate areas) and make any comments such as "this chicken is too old. . .too bony. . . .too thin, etc. ) If any chicken giggles he or she is out of the game. Now if the BUYER finds a chicken he or she likes, then both the BUYER and the GROCER takes hold of the chicken by each arm and they proceed to swing the chicken three times. The chicken cannot laugh nor can his or her hands come apart while being swung back and forth, otherwise the chicken is out of the game. This continues until everyone is out of the game.
FOOT TO FOOT TAG
Similar to above except free players are "safe" when they sit with their soles of their feet touching another player.
GIGGLE WIGGLE
This is a fun sleepover game where there are lots of sleeping bags. One person is chosen "it" and leaves the room. Everyone then dives into someone else's sleeping bag and covers their faces. Then "it" is called back in. She can then tiggle persons in the sleeping bags to guess who is in it. No jumping or sitting on the persons in the bags. If "it" guesses right, then the that person becomes the next "it." The kids can continue shuffling in and out of bags and disguising their voices.
GUESS WHO?
(Pre-teens and Teens)
This is a fun game, but the kids should know each other pretty well by their first and last names. Divide the kids into two teams with one team leader). Have two adults (or two tall students) hold up a dark blanket (or dark bed sheet) between two teams of kids (so that they cannot see each other). Then two kids stand facing each other on opposite sides of the blanket. One the word "drop" the adults drop the blanket. The first person to shout out the first and last name of the person standing in front of them gets a point. The team leader then picks the next opponents when the sheets go back up.
Learn the letter "Q"
Ingredients: egg timer, jack's, queen's, kings
Instructions: Get an egg timer, shuffle all the Jacks, Kings and Queens you can come up with. Show them each card and explain that you are going to hide them and they can only find the Queens. All others that are found have to be left where they find them. Put them on top of end tables, on the couch cushions, easy visable places. Everytime they find a Queen, they hollar "Q", and put it in their hands. Set the egg timer for them for about 2-3 minutes. After they are done, count all the Q's and then it is their turn to hide them for you to search. Only set your egg timer for about 1 minute. The one who collects the most Q's wins.
Pigs in a blanket
Instructions: You get a huge blanket or as many blankets that you need. The kids go under the blankets and one of then goes out to count. The person outside closes his/her eyes and counts. While he/she is counting the other kids sramble all over the place under the blankets. After the kid on the outside is finished the others have to stop moving. Then the person outside touches and guesses a person. If the persons guess is correct the person who was touched snorts like a piggy, and is it. If the guess is wrong the person who guessed has to count again, and the others scramble.
