The Classic Excuses:

Sorry, I have to wash my hair tonight.

No, I have to take my sick grandmother some chicken soup.

Tonight I have to check all the expiration dates in the refridgorator.

Um... I have to rotate the supplies in the emergency kit.

Unfortunately tonight is my turn to vaccum the ceiling.

My parents said I didn't have to go out with you again...whoops! I mean, my parents said I CAN'T go out with you again.

I would, but there is a great special on watching bears hibernate that is on tonight.

Actually, I plan to count all the grains of sand in my sandbox, so I can't go out with you tonight, and I am sure that will keep me busy for at least a month, so don't ask me again.

Gee, well, I have to stay home and water the plastic house plants tonight.
