Shel Silverstein
SHELDON ALLAN SILVERSTEIN
Born: September 25, 1932, in Chicago, Illinois

Poet (children's literature), cartoonist, composer ("A Boy Named Sue" & "On the Cover of the Rollin' Stone") & several movies ("Postcards from the Edge"), lyricist, folk singer, screenwriter
One of the great things about SILVERSTEIN is that kids (such as my daughter) like him, so he gets them excited about reading.
ANTEATER
"A genuine anteater,"
The pet man told me dad.
Turned out it was an aunt eater,
And now my uncle's mad!
SNOWBALL
I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed.
CAMP WONDERFUL
I'm going to Camp Wonderful
Beside Lake Paradise
Across the Blissful Mountain
In the Valley of the Nice.
They say it's sunny, cool, and green,
They say the angels made it.
The motto is "Be Fair and Care."
I know I'm gonna hate it.
"I would hope that people, no matter what age, would find something to identify with in my books."
"Instead of tug o' war, let's play hug o' war."
POSTSCRIPT
"Age does not make us childish, as some say; it finds us true children."
