| From the mid-'50s until the mid-'60s, SOUPY SALES was synonymous with children's television. His shows were written by adults for children with the intention of exercising their minds as well as their funny bones. Soupy's shows were responsible for people such as Pee Wee Herman to have the opportunity to perform on television. Some of the characters who appeared regularly on the show were WHITE FANG, BLACK TOOTH, POOKIE THE LION, and HIPPY THE HIPPO, who preceded the "hippie" movement by many years. A recurring stunt on the show was throwing a pie in someone's face. Soupy even put one in Frank Sinatra's face on one show. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
