The State of Qatar.
The peninsula of Qatar lies half way along the west cost of the Arabian Gulf. It is approximately 160 Km in length and measures 80 Km at its widest point, covering an area of 11,347 sq. Km.
Qatar proclaimed its independence on September 3rd, 1971. It is a member of the Gulf Arab States Co-operation Council ( GASCC ), the United Nations and the Arab active member of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries ( OPEC and the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries ( OAPEC ), together with international and regional organisations, such as the World Bank, International Fund, UNESCO, FAO, WHO, ILO and many others. The national economy is dependent on the utilisation of hydrocarbon resources and the development of related .
The population of Qatar ( inclusive of immigrant communities ) is estimated at 504,000.
Islam is official and dominant religion and Islamic Jurisprudence is the basis of the country's legal system. The official language is Arabic, but English is widely spoken and understood.
The country has a pleasant climate from October to April. In summer, from June to September, the heat becomes intense and humidity. In winter there is rain from time to time, but total rainfall is very low, averaging only 73 mm per year.

The unit of currency is the Qatari Rial ( QR ) which is divided into 100 Dirhams. There are no restrictions on the amount of currency which may be taken into or out of Qatar
