My Heritage

From the time I was a small child I remember loving Celtic music. Bagpipes and tin whistles--watching Irish dancers and always proud of having a "wee bit" of Irish in me, especially on St.Patrick's Day. My maternal ancestry was of Irish heritage and my paternal ancestry of Scottish. One of my lifelong dreams is to visit these two countries and satisfy that dream. Little did I know that my fondness of kilts, tartan plaids, and Celtic music would allow me to trace my roots. My maiden name is Duncan, derived from the Gaelic Donnachaidh. It is one of the most famous Scottish surnames and can be traced back to Medieval Times. William Shakespeare told of the tragic story of Duncan 1, King of Scotland in Macbeth. I have traced the name Duncan back as far as John Duncan who was the first Duncan to settle in America. He served in the First Continental Revolution and was my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather. I haven't yet traced my maternal heritage of Melrose yet but I am told that it is Irish.
