If, out of time, I could lift one moment and keep it shining, always new, of all the days I have lived, I'd pick the moment I first met you.~Robert Sexton~
Though we were 3,000 miles apart friendship and technology brought us together. I met Joe in a single parent chatroom one weekend when his best friend Bear was showing him around the web. We talked about the blessings and trials of being single parents and I found myself looking forward to talking to him each day. We exchanged email addresses and sent each other cards and flowers, we sent each other gifts by mail and talked on ICQ every evening. My day was so slow until our meeting time on ICQ! *S* The first time I heard his voice on the telephone I was amazed at his accent and thought that he sounded like a radio DJ..what a voice! *S* He says that I am the one with the accent. Joe is from Oregon and I'm from West Virginia. Anyone that doesn't have a twang or a Southern drawl has an accent in my opinion.
At this point and long before we had fallen in love and were wanting to meet each other. Joe planned to fly out to meet me and my children but we knew that the goodbyes would be too painful. We had already made up our minds that we wanted to be together the rest of our lives. He asked me to fly out to meet him and I told him only if I could bring him back home with me. So he sent me the flight tickets and we anxiously awaited the weeks, the days and the hours. I was so excited.. flying for the first time in my life to meet a man I had fallen in love with yet had never saw in person. I would whine alot to Bear about my apprehension and used a lot of "what ifs" and "butt sandwiches" as they called it.. and he kept reassuring me that it would be just fine and to stop second guessing everything.
Joe was waiting at the Portland, Oregon Airport dressed in a knock out suit and with a beautiful bouquet of roses and a necklace. Bear came along to add moral support and to act as chauffeur. After hugs and kisses Bear drove us back to Joe's home in Seaside. I met his family and saw a little of the area before we left two days later in a much overpacked Ford Truck with a bird and a dog on my lap. And I thought that Beverly Hillbillies were all in my neck of the woods! *LOL* We drove 3,000 miles in 5 days and saw lots of beautiful highways, endless rocks and mountains.. and cruised for hours with the windows down and the music loud.
On August 19th, Joe replaced my simple gold ring with a beautiful diamond engagement ring and I've worn it proudly since. We haven't set an official date for the wedding but sometime this Spring. We will have a wedding album posted to share. Yes, dreams do come true, and some Internet relationships are successful. We believe that love can occur anywhere, anytime. Honesty is the key factor in successful relationships and we choose to believe that open honesty is always the best policy. Had we not been open and honest from the start we would never have gotten this far. This story will never end so keep in touch to see more news and events. I love you Joe!
