*Note: I have used the "3/10" because some belief systems use
3-fold while others use 10-fold so I am not saying three-tenths.
"My" Beliefs on The Rede and Manipulation (aka: "Endless Banter
and Babble"):
There is that "hopeless" concept of "We create our own reality":
If this is the case, then how would it be possible to hurt
another because the reality they created, has caused
"whatever" to happen and we were placed in the equation for
"whatever" to occur (and visa-versa)??
There is also the thought that if you decide to spell-weave that
you are in fact manipulating everyone/everything
(human/animal/veggie/mineral) that ends up in the equation. When casting spells aren't you manipulating the powers
you use to do the spell?? Don't you at least attempt to
manipulate your higher power(s) to give you attention and allow
the desired intent to manifest in your reality??
I believe life in general is "manipulative". I am manipulating you right now, because you are reading this and not doing
something else instead. Life is cause and effect so anything that
is done by anyone is a manipulation in some respects.
On newsgroups and mailing lists, I've seen many requests for spells for women to get pregnant. If you do the spell and you do become "gifted" with a child, some
will say, you manipulated that child to be born and you didn't
ask that fetus permission to be created, so will you get
3/10-fold back in the negitive because you didn't ask if the
child wanted to be born... Give me a break!!!
Also, Im convinced that magic(k) has no humanistic-type laws because
it is concidered "Natural" and in nature there is no room for
"Human laws" because that would inhibit the act of being
"Natural"... What happened to "survival of the fittest"??? What
makes you think that the weak survive??
When I talk about this problem I have with the Rede and with the
3/10-fold law, I am not saying to go out and do things that you
would concider morally incorrect, or just because so-and-so is
being a complete (_!_) to jump and curse them, or if someone is
acting for some reason "harsh" to bind them, or to act selfish. I
just do what I think I need to do at the time as long as I count
to 100 and think before I strike in a good or bad way. There is a
big differance between "Witchcraft" and "Wicca" and that gets lost in
the translations sometimes.
Obviously I am NOT 100% Wiccan, I am a Witch and a Pagan (religiously).

forever due to my religious/spiritual background that is an
extreme. I just don't buy it. If it really existed, then why are
there so many bastards in the world who seem to get everything
they want? While others that basically spend their lives in
"service" to humanity and do not do anything "ill-favored" seem
to never get anything but "hell on earth" (for better words)?? There is no way to
justify the reasons for this. If the 3/10-fold law existed these
people should in essence be blessed with a happy life but they
aren't.
With an animal, I think that it would be cruel to not do
something to help them (including magick). Other's say that if
you did some sort of "healing" spell on an animal or person
without asking permission (how do you ask an animal permission?)
you are manipulating their "will" ( if it is there time to die) not be healed, thus backlash is ensured even if you were trying
to do "good".
When people start doing spells I really believe that depending
upon maturity the person would only seek knowledge and their
"Truth" first before diving into any type of spells. Then they
progress to the point that they rather spell weave/caste only
when the need arises due to the "swing of things" and the whole
concept of the "scales of justice" and their moralistic views.
If healing in anyway is involved, I think of it in 3 ways.
First is that it is your responsibility as a human to help
another (person/plant/animal/whatever) in distress (if not then
ta' heck with the medical proffession because they would be
manipulating multible times in a day, and would receive negative 3/10 fold for healing those that are not capable to give the doctors permission for treatment).
Second would be that if you look at the rede and believe in
3-fold or 10-fold, If you are helping another, then you will
recieve help back in fashion when you are in need of the
same, but that is not always the case. Some people who believe in
the Rede and 3/10-fold will turn around and say that if you, in
any way manipulate or impose on someone elses "will" in a good or
bad way is "wrong" and that you will receive bad kharma for even
doing "good" if you did not ask permission to do whatever.
Lastly, Goddess/God/Whomever, is "Love" and anything done out of "True" love can't receive negative backlash. Just because someone does a spell, prays,
or chants for something, it doesn't mean that it will always
happen and in the way it was imagined (in other words, "Shit
happens").
On the other-hand, IF someone deserves a kick in the tushy and
you've thought about it for a while and counted to 100 before
doing any kind of "work", wouldn't it be your "right" to call for
"justice" on your side instead of theirs?
I have met many pagans (whom I call "Barbie Doll Wiccans") who
try to live by the rede (nothing wrong with that at all and good luck!!!). They refuse to do any sort of magick on
anyone even when attacked. Their reasoning is that if they are
being "attacked" in any way, their "God/dess" will protect them
and all will turn out fine and feel that protection is up to
their higher force. These people will never ever "bind" another
even when justified because as far as they are concerned it is
negative and if they "bind" someone, they are manipulating that
person's "will" and they will receive backlash for even protecting
themselves or others. Well it is a big cruel world out there
folks and if that is your belief, then you live in a
never-neverland where the butterflys soar in the air and nothing
bad ever happens.
I will never say that my beliefs completely eliminate the
possibility of kharma or the 3/10-fold but to blindly look at the
modern concept of the Rede, I cannot see where all of these
so-called Masters of Magick see where "Harm None" and "Don't dare
do anything to anyone else or you'll in a sense be damned" comes
in. I find that the more I learn and study paganism (about
15+years worth) these people are in fact mainipulating the Rede
to justify their views and are attempting to manipulate others to
believe their views are the "True Path". On this "Magick" page I
have the rede posted (a long version. One of probably a million
versions) and still can't see where some people's mindset's are..
All-In-All, none of us know the truth and this is all just
opinions and we won't know the truth until we are with our higher
powers in the after-life, even if then.
Magick is "Energy" and it is neither black nor white, it is just energy propelled towards an end result.. Depending upon your emotions while doing any spells, that is where negative and positive is created. *If you learn anything in your spititual quest, Please remember that this is the pure essence of Magick.*
