My grandparents
raised me from childhood and I couldn't
have
asked for better parents. I thank God everyday for them
and
for giving them the strength to take myself and my 2 brothers
in and
care for us. My grandmother was born in North Carolina in 1920 and
lived in Florida the entire 20 something years that I lived with them.
She passed away from brain cancer in 1994, that was very hard to watch
since she was always so strong, I can't remember ever loving someone so
much as I loved her! God gave me a special gift when he made her
my Grandmother!!
My grandfather
was born in Havana, Cuba in 1920 and moved to the United States soon after
that. His mother was from Cuba and his father an American Soldier.
My grandfather was a Master Sargeant in the service receiving numerous
metals and commendations. He graduated from 3 different colleges
and became a Plumbing Contractor. Although, he never was a person
to show affection, we grew very close when my grandmother became ill. He
told me he loved me everytime we hung up the phone, he told me he would
never forget what I had done for my grandmother through her illness.
We found out he had lung cancer in late 1997 and when he couldn't live
alone anymore, I moved him from his home of 40 years to mine in a different
town and I cared for him until he passed away April of 1998. We never called
him grandpa, my youngest brother called him Friend one day and it stuck
to us like glue....
I
love you Granny and Friend & God Bless your Souls...
