The Dagenham Milkman Society Reunion 1997

It all started in 1985, when Arnold Smith, a milkman from Barnet, decided that the milk industry was on its way down. He got tired of delivering milk day in day out. He decided that something else was needed, he decided that his life should amount to more than just making sure No. 27 had enough milk. He began to search around North London looking for other like minded milkmen. He eventually found milkmen from Islington, Camden, Tottenham, Dagenham, Redbridge and Hillingdon, in all Arnold Smith found 125 milkman who thought that their lives missed something. They became known as the Barnet Milkman Society. However in 1986, Arnold Smith had a fatal accident involving a screwdriver and a goldfish. His wife forbade the society to meet in her house, so they moved to Dagenham under the guise of their new leader, Clifford Grimthorpe. Clifford Grimthorpe was a good man, whose life work had been to the milk industry, his milkfloat had been voted milk float of the year twice running, in short he was a well respected milkman, It was he who lead the milkman society into a new era. It was his goal, not only to deliver milk, but to deliver communist manifestoes as well. In 1987, with weeks before the general election, the dagenham milkman society campaigned around North London, occasionaly slipping a cop of the communist manifesto with Mrs Robinsons gold top. The big day came and the milkmans society stood in the election. 5 seats were to be contended for in Barnet, Dagenham, Hillingdon, Tottenham and Finchley. The Society were sure they would triumph, they believed a win was for sure as they had drugged the milk in these areas, however unknown to the society there was a traitor in their midsts, and he sabotaged the plans. In the end the society got 12 votes, in total over the 5 constituencies. Dejected they split up and went there seperate ways. The main leaders of the society were all sacked from their positions at the Co-op dairy, and that was that.

That was until October 1997 when the society once again met up. BACK TO BOBS
