My Dad connected us to the net about a year ago now. To begin with, I just 'surfed' the net and signed guestbooks. Lots of the pages that I visited were girl clubs. I thought to myself that I wanted to have a girl club and become president of it. That is how Girlz Rule began.

Girlz Rule was a club that I started in March 1997. I had already made some friends on the net, and Elizabeth (one of my friends) became vice-prez of the club. When it began, I didn't think any people would become members. I normally received a membership application once a week, and so the club was quite slow to get started. I advertised it on search engines, and linked my award that my friend had made for me to the main page. Elizabeth also had a Girlz Rule page on her homepage, adveritising it. As the months went past, more and more girls became members. The club was growing rapidly!! I made lots more pages over Easter and Summer, but then in Summer a dreadful thing happened. One day when I connected to the net, I went to Girlz Rule, and it had gone! I wrote to Angelfire (the company I was using) and they told me that they had had a severe disk crash and lost lots of pages, including all of mine. All that work had been wasted!

I was quite upset about this. I had spent so long on the club, and now it had just gone. I wrote to Elizabeth, and we both decided to try and re-make the pages as many girls loved the club. By the end of the summer I had re-made all of the pages, and even added more pages. The club was brilliant, but that was when I was spending about an hour a day on it.

When I started school again in September, I wasn't allowed to go on the net during the week as I had lots of work to do, and therefore only able to update Girlz Rule at the weekends. I still do that every weekend, but I haven't added any new pages for a long time. Instead I spend my 'net time' on my new page called Laura's Land. I wanted to have my own homepage because then I wouldn't have any presure to update it every weekend. I update my page only when I want to!

Also, I made this page, because I think it's wonderful that so many people can have their own part of the World Wide Web. The WWW is such a big thing, and now part of it is mine!
