Welcome To My Garden...

Come In And Smell The Flowers...

Hi everyone....*S*....As you can tell, I enjoy viewing, smelling, and planting flowers. Flowers have a unique way of cheering a person no matter what is wrong around them. I have found that planting is a great source of releasing frustrations and worries. Another benefit you reap from planting is the satisfaction of knowing you have created something very beautiful.

My ultimate favorite flower is The Rose...

Put something here for browsers that don't use Java.

My next favorite is The Carnation...

Other favorite flowers include Begonias, Lillies, and Tulips...

When spring arrives and the nights grow warmer, I enjoy planting hanging baskets and planters for my front porch. The aroma exuded from the flowers when you enter onto the porch is a sweet, fresh odor which lingers near the front door. Occasionally, the soft breeze sweeps the odor into the home and we are blessed with the wonderful smell of the flowers there, too.

On a warm summer evening a person is easily able to smell the sweet fragrance of Lillies of the Valley and Lilacs as they walk thru the backyard. The Lillies of the Valley grow in a shady area above the patio and often you may find the bunnies and chipmunks hiding among the leaves of the flowering plants. The lilacs are located at the end of the yard and span the entire borderline of approximately 190ft. The breathtaking light purple color is as delicate as the gentle fragrance from the Lilacs. The neighbors enjoy the view and smell as much as we do and often ask if they may cut some Lilacs for a vase in their home. We love to share our bountiful beautiful plants with others and always say "yes" without any reservation.

There are primarily two types of flowers with one being classified as an annual and the other as a perennial. The annual flower completes its life cycle in one growing season. The seeds germinate in the spring, the plant grows, produces flowers and seeds, and then dies when the frost occurs. Perennials live for more than one growing season. There are actually two types of perennials...the first being a Herbaceous perennial which usually appears to have died after one season and then sends up new shoots the following spring. The second type of perennials is a Woody perennial which includes trees and shrubs and does not fall to the ground, but gets larger each year.

When planting annuals, there are several concerns one must remember to include within their planting care. Planting of annuals must never occur until the danger of frost is past, or the temperture of the soil is at least 60 degrees. Indoor planting times are 6 to 8 weeks earlier so that the plants are ready to be transplanted when the outside conditions are proper. When it is hot outside, it is better to plant in the evenings when it is cooler. Plan on planting the annuals as soon as possible after purchasing them so as to prevent them from being damaged from the sun or dryness. Once the plants have been planted, they require water. Watering them is a very important part in order to maintain their health. Don't allow the soil to dry out because the roots of annuals are very shallow. The best way to water the plants is to begin in the morning and through the heat of the day. Finishing watering by the early afternoon is advisable so that the plants may dry off prior to nightfall. Night waterings may create ideal conditions for development of disease on the plant. Following the recommended care for the plants should ensure the best possible growth and flowerings.
