The chapel on the left is the Loretto Chapel built in the 1800's in Santa Fe New Mexico. The story of the miracle of Loretto is, the sisters had to climb a primitive ladder to the choir loft as there were no stairs. So the sisters prayed for a stairway to the choirloft. An old carpenter came by with his tools on a donkey and built the stairway with wood that is not indigenous to New Mexico and left with no compensation. He bent the wood and fastened it with wooden pegs. It would (and still does)hold the entire choir, making two complete 360 degree turns without the aid of a centerpole. I have visited there many times and it still mesmerizes me when I see it. It gives me pause to ponder modern engineering as well as ancient faiths.
