This is a story about a shoe warehouse in south eastern Wisconsin. The author had worked there for 4 years, with very few dull moments. For instance........................
What don't you want to know? Who set the fire? Whom belongs to which gang? Which graffiti is the most disturbing? Who's selling the best drugs? Where the hell is management?
Personally, I've had almost a full days wages stolen from me by my charming co-workers. Another girl has been taken for half that amount. Others have also been ripped off. Can't be proven, so there is no guilty party.
The fire was set in the roof access area, during the first shift, while the building was fully occupied. Luckily, it only scorched part of the area before being discovered. There were a few suspects, but nothing conclusive. The arsonist may well still be there.
The graffiti in many parts of the building is particularly offensive to some. It ranges from gang style "tags" to sexual references. Again, no proof of the guilty party. Just recently the company saw fit to hold a "harassment" orientation. They were driven to it when a male knowingly walked into an occupied ladies room & relieved himself.
Whoops, that's another story...
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If that's true, here's a whole book.........
Hope you found this brief tour interesting. I am not making this up. All these photos are as they were seen, nothing is doctored.
If you have anything like this (or, dare I say, worse) at your workplace, please link them to this page or e-mail me. I'm interested in how prevalent things of this nature are.
This is where I'm supposed to say these opinions are strictly my own & in no way reflect on management's, the company's, or the union's.
In the interest of being fair......
On 12/5/98, most of the graffiti had been sprayed over.  Perhaps the powers that be don't much care to see their own names incorporated into such works of art.
On 12/28/98, management assigned the job of painting over the grafitti to some of the people responsible for putting it there.  Have no fear.  I have the utmost faith in my charming co-workers & expect to be posting a fresh batch soon.
On 1/7/99, 'C.S.'  stepped down as a union officer.  'C.S.' no longer represents anyone other than their self, their opinions are strictly their own & any influence is coincidental.
