HISTORY

Alika del Nayar was founded in 1994 by it's current artistic director, Cipriano Galindo, who is a native of the state of Nayarit in Mexico. The group's name also comes from Nayarit, in honor of the last king of the Cora people(indegenous to the state), the King Nayar. Alica, the name of the sierras surrounding Tepic, capital of the state, means 'Dove' in the Cora dialect.

The theme of our dance group is "Mexico: Tradition and Culture" because our beautiful trademark is based on the traditions and customs of our states, among which are: Nayarit, Jalisco, Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Durango, Sinaloa, Puebla, Yucatan, Guerrero and Chiapas.

Alika del Nayar has had countless presentations throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Some of the most important are: We'd like to extend an invitation to all who want to learn about Mexico through dance.
