Faith Hill was adopted. For years she had no interest in finding her birth mother. Eventually she changed her mind, and with the help of her adopted family, found her parents; she says it was a wonderful experience, and that she now has a great relationship with her birth mother and the brother she never knew she had.
The first time Faith ever sang publicly was in church at the age of three. Her adopted mother encouraged her to sing by paying 25 cents for her to sing at family reunions. She had her first band at age 17. The car she drove to Nashville at age 19 was the car that had been passed down through her family. Faith's first job in Nashville was selling T-shirts at the Country Music Fan Fair. (In Nashville, interviewers would always ask if she was a singer. She didn't get jobs until she figured out what they were really doing was screening out singers. They wanted somebody devoted to the job, not a singer looking for a break.) She was engaged to Scott Hendricks, a record company President. Toured with Alan Jackson for a while. Her hobbies include cooking (hard to believe! she's 5'8" and weighs around 120 pounds), softball, water-skiing, horseback riding, going to movies and collecting picture frames. Faith and her husband Tim McGraw have joined a program called "Kids on Stage" to benefit a local fine arts program for their school (they say they want it there for their own children). Faith also has a project called the Faith Hill Family Literacy Project and she's very passionate about it. Her father did not learn to read because he dropped out of school in the fourth grade to work on the farm and support his 12 brothers and sisters.
