Seattle, Washington

While I was stationed in Bremerton, Washington for the decommissioning of the USS MARIANO G. VALLEJO, I spent a lot of time in Seattle.  From Bremerton it was about a 45 minute ferry ride.  Once or twice a week I was on the ferry to Seattle.  Unfortunately, I never took many pictures.  I always enjoyed the trip, it was a quiet time to think, especially about going home to the East Coast.

I was lucky enough to have friends with cars, since I was unable to bring my own car.  So I was able to leave the area as much as I wanted.  I got a chance to have a snowball fight atop Mt. Rainier, in shorts and a T-shirt.  The temperature in Bremerton when we left was around 70 degrees, but there was still snow atop the mountain.  I was even lucky enough to see Brent Spiner, Data from Star Trek:  The Next Generation at a convention in Belview.  I am a really big fan of ST: TNG.

Time went by, sometimes too slow but March 16, 1995 the MARIANO G. VALLEJO had its last ceremony and the crew was released to their next command.  Fortunately for me, Karl and I were the last to go and we signed each other out on leave.  5 a.m. the next morning we were on our way back to Charleston, South Carolina, and more importantly HOME.

Here are a few sights I would like to share with you:

A picture of the Space Needle from the Bremerton Ferry. Coming up on Seattle from the Ferry. Pikes Place, downtown Seattle.
The Space Needle from across the street, with the monorail. The Space Needle, from the park.

Here are a few site that I have enjoyed:

Seattle Loft Camera - The Loft Camera overlooks Elliot Bay & the Puget Sound.  You can also see Bainbridge Island and the Olympic Peninsula. (updates every minute)

Puget Sound Traffic Cameras - This site has approximately 60 cameras set up where you can choose area to view.  Also has links to Tacoma and Snoqualmie Pass Traffic Cameras. (updates every 1.5 minutes)

Seattle Plus P-I Visitors Guide - This site showcases Pike Place Market, Pioneer Square, Downtown, University of Washington, history houses and much more.
