Craft Conclave, November 8, 1995 - Part I
Council Room
This is the Master's chambers. Meetings and discussions concerning the craft are being held here, and also other meetings which the Farmer Hall will host. This is a long room, dominated by a large, long table with benches on each side of it. By the door, a table with refreshing beverages and snacks is being kept filled by the Hall drudges and ready to partake from.
The glowbaskets are lit and illuminate the room beautifully.
Brian and Winnor are here.
Obvious exits:
Out
Winnor smiles. "Prospering what the upcoming harvest is concerned."
Aeia glances down at the table near the door as she passes, eyes roving with appreciation over the food. She crosses the floor.
Brian turns and smiles, "Master Aeia, it's been a long time."
Aeia approaches the two. "Indeed it has, Brian. And you must be Master Winnor." She proffers her hand.
Brian
You see a man 6 foot tall with a large build. He has brown hair and blue eyes that leave you wondering what he's dreaming up now. He loves a good joke and has a quick smile. He wears a moustache but is otherwise clean-shaven.
Brian is wearing his work clothes. He's wearing his favorite dark red shirt, black pants and sturdy boots. His shirt has the everpresent white badge with a bright red anvil emblazoned on it. Brian is wearing the intricate knotted cords of the MasterSmith.
He is awake and looks alert.
Brian is 42 Turns, 5 months, and 1 day old.
Winnor turns and gives Aeia a warm smile. "Master Aeia. Well met and welcome."
Winnor
Dark hair falls just past the shoulders of this well-built man. His wary green eyes observes everything around him with interest. He is tanned from countless days out in the sun, and his hands are marked from hard labour. He has a reserved, polite smile and seems to be hard to get close to. Yet, he seems to be a friendly and trusty person.
He wears a red shirt under a vest of brown softened hide. His dark woolen trousers are worn and so are his heavy wher-hide boots. A knot with white and golden yellow strands on his shoulder signifies his rank as MasterFarmer on Ista. Around Winnor's waist is a brown knife belt with an intricate pattern of
gold and white. Perched atop Winnor's shoulder is brown Dusk.
He is awake and looks alert.
Carrying:
Farmer's knife Dusk
Winnor is 34 Turns, 1 month, and 14 days old.
Aeia says, "Thank you, Winnor."
Winnor motions to the sitting table and the serving table as well. "Please find yourself comfortable."
Aeia smiles. "Thank you, I will. Tell me, will MasterHarper Oriana be here? It's been ages since I've seen her."
Brian picks up his mug of klah and sits at the table, "It's been too long since I've seen many of the Masters."
Winnor frowns. "Last I heard from the Hall, the news had it that perhaps only Composition Master Namire would represent them, Master Shinnai attending a bit late, anyway."
Aeia nods to Brian's remark. She smiles a little. "I don't think most of the current Craftmasters *were* Craftmasters last we convened..."
Winnor chuckles. "I imagine."
Brian grins and chuckles at Aeia's comment, "True enough."
Aeia walks over and fetches herself a glass of juice from the table. "It's what I get for staying in my position so long," she says with a smile. "All of my peers desert me, and I must get used to entirely new ones."
Brian glances at Aeia, "It's not always desertion, there are sometimes good reasons for a change in leadership."
Winnor nods while he provides himself with a mug of klah.
Taliesin comes in from the Hallway.
Winnor smiles at the Seacrafter. "Master Taliesin, I presume?"
Brian says, "Of course, you were a Craftmaster while I was an Apprentice, Master Aeia."
Brian nods to Taliesin.
Taliesin nods to Winnor, entering quickly.. "Yes - sorry for my tardiness." He nods to Brian and Aeia, "G'evening Masters.."
Aeia sips from her glass. "Don't remind me, Brian. I'm already getting a complex. Good day, Taliesin!"
Taliesin smiles at Aeia, finding a seat, "How's your daughter?"
Winnor spreads his arms out. "Please make yourself comfortable." He frowns lightly and looks at the others. "How long are we prepared to wait...?"
Brian sighs and sips klah, "I had forgotten you had a daughter, Aeia, how is she?"
Aeia answers Taliesin. "Growing faster than her clothes can keep up...."
Taliesin smiles and nods, "Yes - my own is rather like that too.." He looks back at Winnor, "I felt late enough - however long you feel."
Winnor nods. "Please excuse me, I'll go downstairs to see if we have any late arrivals. I'll be back in short time."
Winnor walks out, closing the door behind him.
Aeia nods and sips again from her glass.
Brian glances around the room, "There was a time, we would not have had to wait for CraftMasters to show."
Winnor comes in from the Hallway.
Aeia nods. "And we'd have an audience, too."
Brian nods to Aeia, "A huge audience at times."
Taliesin nods... "That was before the relaxing - or drowsing weather here."
Aeia addresses Winnor. "Who will officiate, if MasterHarper Oriana won't be here?"
Taliesin
Taliesin stands an average 5'11", but bears a body trained by years of seafaring. Less muscular than a smith's, perhaps, but still rather impressive, though his manner does not attract attention to it. He has a quiet manner about him, which tends to let him drift into the background, although he increasingly avoids that as his rank requires him at the helm, quite literally. Smiling often, his face emits a warmness about it, but the smiles are often short lived, although often appearing.
He is garbed in a simple but elegant button-down shirt, as he is commonly found in. The sleeves are loose at the end, but manage not to be obvious about it. Below that, adorning his waist and legs, is a pair of linen slacks fastened with a wherhide belt with ornate ship-scenes burnt into it's surface. His shoes are short, leaving much of his foot uncovered, but gaining a lot of
traction on the floor - obviously a boat shoe.
He is awake and looks alert.
Taliesin is 26 Turns, 2 months, and 12 days old.
Winnor frowns lightly. "I feel confident Master Shinnai will."
Aeia nods.
Lana comes in from the Hallway.
Lana
Lana is a striking woman of medium height. Her sunstreaked light brown hair is shoulder length and as soft and touchable as sisal. Her features are classical in form, her complexion perfect and creamy. Her body is slim but full, curved in all the right places. She seems very shy at first, but is warm and friendly
once past her shyness. Her emerald green eyes are always twinkling with humor, but have been known to flash with fire when her temper is riled.
Lana is wearing a long flowing cotton skirt in a bright royal blue. The fabric is of a wrinkled style and shot with swirls of lighter and darker colors of blue. Her blouse is a matching navy color, the neckline scooping around her shoulders loosely. The sleeves cap her arms and the blouse tucks into her skirt. A cloth belt is wrapped about her waist in a sky blue, embroidered with
dark blue flowers and tied on the ends with royal blue tassels. A finly shaped pendant hangs from her neck.
She is awake and looks alert.
Lana is 21 Turns, 1 month, and 5 days old.
Perick comes in from the Hallway.
Athiana comes in from the Hallway.
Perick nods quietly to the assembled Masters.
Athiana joins Perick, quietly.
Thorn comes in from the Hallway.
Winnor greets the Weaver and Healer. "Please come in and make yerself comfortable."
Vela comes in from the Hallway.
Brian sips klah and waits for the new arrivals to settle in.
Winnor nods as the Masters enters.
Aeia smiles to Thorn. "Long time no see, friend."
Perick smiles and motions Thia to precede him.
Taliesin nods to the newly arriving Masters and retired Masters.
Perick
A truly far seeing, tanned young man that occasionally senses things that appear to belong to a different world. Standing tall at just over 6 foot, and a stocky build, his light brown/blonde curly hair falls to his shoulders and in his hazel coloured eyes you detect a strange other-worldliness that instantly puts you at ease.
Perick is wearing a simple pair of linen trousers and a linen tunic, both in pale blue, on his feet are a pair of well worn low boots and his Journeyman healer's knot is on his shoulder. Perick wears a knife belt around his waist with a large sheath attached to the side.
He is awake and looks alert.
Thorn smiles softly. "I just got back.
Athiana heads for a seat, smiling at Perick as she finds a seat.
Perick sits quietly beside Thia.
Winnor refills his mug and takes a seat at the end of the table.
JeDera comes in from the Hallway.
Alesia comes in from the Hallway.
Aeia finds a seat with the other established Craftmasters.
Alesia smiles as she nods to familiar faces.
JeDera smiles as she enters and hugs those she knows.
Thorn smiles softly to Alesia.
Alesia grins even more as she moves to be near Thorn.
Thorn sits down next to Aeia.
JeDera sits with the other harpers to wait for the Master.
Thorn smiles to Aeia. "How are you Aeia?"
Lana settles into the place reserved for the Weavers and puts her hands in her lap, looking around nervously.
Thorn grins to his C2. "How is the craft Alesia?"
Aeia shrugs. "Well," she says to Thorn's earlier question. "I remember all too well my first Conclave." She smiles. "It's a lot less nerve-wracking when you're not waiting on the edge of your seat for good or bad news."
Alesia blinks, "It's doing well, Sir."
Thorn chuckles to Aeia. "Aye."
Brian leans forward and looks toward JeDera, "Pending arrival of your CraftMaster, would you get this conclave started?"
Yvella comes in from the Hallway.
Yvella walks out, closing the door behind her.
Brian continues to look toward JeDera.
JeDera nods to Brian and stands with a small smile. "If everyone would quiet down, we'll get started."
Cliya comes in from the Hallway.
Cliya smiles lightly and takes a seat in the back, slightly behind her Master Herder.
JeDera loks toward her list. "We have a few items on the agenda that I've listed down. "The dolphincraft and a possible Tannercraft. Anything else?"
Aeia chuckles. "Don't forget our hosts."
JeDera smiles at Winnor. "And the farmercraft."
Winnor smiles.
Brian nods to Aeia, "Wouldn't want to do that."
Thorn chuckles.
Liera comes in from the Hallway.
Liera walks out, closing the door behind her.
Aeia presses her lips together in suppressed amusement.
JeDera smiles. "Alright. Let's start with the Dolphincraft. Apparently Thorn would like to become Craftmaster Emeritus and make, Alesia I'd guess? Acting Craftmaster. Do you have someone to present your case, Craftmaster?"
Thorn stands up out the chair and clears his throat.
Zallan comes in from the Hallway.
Thorn faces the CMs.
JeDera smiles at Zallan and gestures him to the chair reserved for the possible tannercraft.
Brian turns his attention to Thorn.
Thorn says, "As you know I have been away to the north recently."
Zallan nods and walks offer to join JeDera
Thorn clears his throat again. "It appears that the Tillek has died recently and a new one is being chosen.
Thorn says, "For those of you who do not know. The Tillek is my Counterpart amongst the Dolphins."
Athiana raises her eyebrow.
JeDera nods saddly.
Alesia nods quietly, watching her Craftmaster.
Winnor frowns lightly and continues to listen.
Aeia's darkens a little as she listens.
Thorn says, "She is chosen for her wisdom, knowledge, and integrity. She calls her home the Great Subsidence in the north. But anyways, it appears that my own partner is the most likely candidate."
Thorn says, "With that knowledge I will not be able to run the craft to my satisfaction."
Thorn says, "So I've asked Alesia, My C2 to run the craft in my stead until all this is worked out."
Brian nods in understanding.
Aeia nods.
Taliesin glances back at the lady mentioned, then back at the Craftmaster.
Thorn smiles softly. "The Craft will be in good hands. If Alesia has anything to say now would be a good time."
Aeia says, "Do you have any idea how long you will be away from the position, Thorn?"
Thorn nods. "Possibly a turn. Hopefully less."
JeDera jots a few notes down on her book.
Thorn says, "Are there any other questions? For myself or Alesia?""
Alesia stands up, "I am a little surprised at this, but I do know I will do my best for the dolphinhall and the dolphineers."
Taliesin nods, "How is this affecting the rest of the dolphins?"
Aeia looks interested in this question as well.
Winnor nods slowly.
Thorn frowns. "Some have been a bit upset of late. The passing of a much loved Mother Figure like the Tillek will affect them all."
Thorn says, "Alesia, how have the dolphins been at the Hall?""
Alesia smiles, "They have been fairly active. Some are looking for ancient relics under the water, others are training with future dolphineers. They seem well and adjusted."
Perick says, "How long do you anticipate this will take?"
Thorn turns to Perick. "What will take?"
Aislyn comes in from the Hallway.
Perick says, "The selection of new Tillek"
Brian leans back, "I'll trust to your judgement on Alesia's ability, Master Thorn, I have no arguments against this matter."
Taliesin glances up at the late entry, and smiles widely, trying not to stray too far from the proceedings, but gestures her to a close seat before looking back to Thorn.
Thorn ahs. "It is a very serious concern for them as the Tillek has the store of all Dolphin Knowledge somehow. The vote should be taken in a few months perhaps longer.
Aeia's expression shows that she is satisfied. "I concur with Brian, Thorn, and readily accept Alesia as your replacement, though I do hope I will see you in that position again."
Perick nods, "And will you be returning if your partner is selected?"
Taliesin lets Perick finish questioning before assenting.
Thorn smiles. "I think that would be a premature decision at this time."
Taliesin nods.. "I'll accept Alesia as Acting Craftmaster.. or more if the case becomes so."
JeDera coughs
Perick nods, "Well wish your partner luck for me please"
Thorn nods. "I shall Perick." He turns to JeDera. "My thanks JeDera." He sits back down with a somewhat of a frown.
JeDera says, "Now that Master Thorn has presented his case. Could we please, by raise of hand, vote for Alesia to take over as Acting Craftmaster til Thorn can return to us? Raise your hand if you approve."
Perick raises his hand
Aeia places her hand on Thorn's and gives it a quick squeeze.
Aeia raises her hand.
Brian raises his hand.
Taliesin raises his hand.
Lana hesitantly raises her hand in the air.
Athiana smiles at Perick, nodding her agreement, although not voting as she is no longer craftmaster.
Thorn squeezes Aeia's hand back and raises his hand as well.
JeDera takes a tally when the last hand seems to have been raised and writes that down.
Aislyn takes a seat next to Taliesin.
Thorn look at Alesia and puts a hand upon her shoulder to whisper to her.
JeDera counts the ones objecting and then smiles at Alesia. "Congradulations, Acting CraftMaster Alesia."
Alesia nods, "Thank you...thank you very much."
Aeia smiles.
JeDera crosses that off then looks back up. "Now the FarmerCraft has recently returned to Ista. Does anyone have any questions for Winnor or his craft?"
Alesia sits back down on the other side of Thorn.
Thorn raises his hand.
Lana raises her hand a little.
JeDera looks over at Master Lana and smiles. "You had a question, Master?"
Taliesin looks about to raise his hand, but, the first question already called upon, doesn't.
Lana nods hesitantly and stands. "Master Winnor, are there any large specialty crops the farmers are currently working on, seeing as the Ista climate and soils are much different than north?"
JeDera nods to Thorn, signifying that she saw his hand.
Aeia waits for Winnor to address Lana's question.
Lana blushes at the silence and sits down quietly, hiding behind her hair.
Winnor nods at Master Lana. "That's the sole purpose for our craft wishing to extend on the island." He smiles at the healers. "Especially some of the herb bushes for medicinal purposes, like Lovage and Willow are giving far larger harvests here."
Lana appends something. "Sisal?"
Lana blushes again. "Are you planning on any sisal fields?"
Perick nods and smiles quietly, "Can we call on your craft to help harvest Numbweed then Master Winnor?"
Lana giggles at Perick softly.
Winnor frowns. "No results as to this season, I'm afraid. We will work on it next year. The food harvest has been our first priority after the... Storm."
Lana nods softly. "But we must clothe them as well as feed them." She sits back down and meekly indicates she's done.
Winnor grins at Perick. "If it's necessary, we will give our spare hands."
JeDera nods to Thorn. "Master? You had a question?"
Aeia listens with the interest.
JeDera smiles at Talisien and indicates he'll be next.
Perick nods, "With thread it may be a necessity, our reserves are way too low."
Thorn stands and nods. "Aye, Master Winnor, do you plan on harvesting any of the sea weeds.? If so we would like to know so that a dolphin or too will be on patrol during the harvesting."
Thorn sits back down.
Winnor nods gratefully at Thorn. "It would be a pleasure to cooperate with you on that. I will notify the Dolphinhall in short time if necessary."
JeDera waits patiently for Thorn to indicate he has nothing else.
Thorn nods slowly. "Aye, please contact Master Lynd or Cyslia if this service is needed."
Aeia speaks up. "I think you will find there is much crossover between your Craft and many others, Winnor. The Herders as well are looking forward to trading plowing beasts with you for grain and hay."
Winnor smiles. "I have been looking forward to such a trade. I understand the Ista bred workbeasts leaves little to be desired." He gives Aeia a court nod.
Taliesin raises his hand to ask..
JeDera nods to the Seacraft Master.
Taliesin nods, "I have a few questions... first, are you planning to send much or any of the crops abroad to other holds and halls?"
Winnor hrms. "The main goal of our work this harvest season has been to produce enough to share the necessary vegetable food with the needing on the island."
He raises a finger. "Not to forget the guarantist of our fields and harvest, the Weyr."
Athiana blushes a little, and shifts in her seat, giving Perick a quick look."
Winnor continues. "This must be settled after the harvest is tallied."
Krycek drops from ::between::, a spillage of night's shadow fallen astray by human call.
JeDera smiles and nods. "Anyone else have a question for Master Winnor?"
Brian raises his hand.
JeDera nods to Brian
Brian glances at Taliesin.
JeDera oops and had pointed to him.
Taliesin glances back to Brian, "A moment, first.."
Brian nods.
Winnor looks awaitingly at the Seacraft Master.
Taliesin looks back to Winnor, "I don't remember anyone asking, but you have adequate supporters? and Lord Holder Trew's approval?"
Thorn looks at Taliesin. "Why would a Lord Holder's approval be needed for a Craft issue?
JeDera blinks and nods slightly. "The Farmercraft is already established across Pern, so it's their choice if they want to make a new Hall here."
Joat comes in from the Hallway.
Jowl comes in from the Hallway.
Taliesin answers Thorn's question quickly, "Yes - but it is Trew's land he's going to be plowing."
Winnor nods. "After the storm, the tight cooperation between Hall and Hold /has/ been required. And Trew is a very cooperative Lord Holder..."
Brian says, "I suspect Lord Trew would be pleased at the prospect of gaining a CraftHall within his Hold's holdings."
Winnor arches a brow at the smith. "Not implying anything, Master Brian?"
JeDera smiles softly. "I'd say if anyone has a serious problem with the spaced used by the farmercraft on the island, they could take that up with the MasterFarmer."
Taliesin nods to Winnor, "That's all I was wondering.. You do have prospect and farmers lined up already, though, yes?"
Winnor nods at Taliesin. "Arriving Ista just in time for the harvest, too."
JeDera nods. "Any other questions for the Farmers
JeDera smiles at Brian.
Brian says, "Master Winnor, how has your efforts at restoring the farmland on Ista gone so far?"
Winnor smiles. "Above all expectations, really. I would think that in two seasons most of the once grown land will be fully restaurated and proper for growing.
JeDera smiles. "Anything else?"
Thorn listens carefully.
Brian says, "Master Winnor, in what condition is the farm equipment you have been using?"
Winnor nods slowly at Master Brian. "A timely question. I'm afraid your Hall will have their hands full through the winter from the orders we'll place. We have been improvising a lot this year, getting away with it. Next year, we are in badly need of new equipment."
Brian nods, "I thought that might be the case." Brian leans back and nods to JeDera.
Joat groans silently in the crowd
JeDera looks around the room. "Anyone else?"
Perick shakes his head.
Thorn shrugs and looks about.
Athiana shakes her head, quickly.
JeDera nods with a smile. "Welcome to Ista, Master Winnor."
Winnor bows lightly, implying all the crafters.
JeDera checks a few more things off her pad, does some other business about NPC crafts and then smiles. "Our last piece of business is the Tannercraft. They've petitioned that we admit them as a full Istan craft. Madter Zallan is here to represent them. Does anyone have any questions for him?"
Thorn raises his hand.
JeDera nods at Thorn.
T'nik comes in from the Hallway.
Thorn says, "You'll probably not need our services but the other way possible. Can your craft come up with any form of waterproof suits?"
Lana blinks.
Thorn smiles to Lana. "Perhaps something between the two crafts?"
Zallan
Long silver streaks run through the rich ebony hair that flows down her back. Her eyebrows are thin and delicate almost like some master painted them with loving care. Her dark blue eyes remind you of the twilight and the dark sky, before the sunrise. Her expression is one of cool professional detachment.
She is wearing a simple blue dress with short sleeves. Her apron is made of sturdy black wherhide.
She is awake, but has been staring off into space for 28 minutes.
Zallan is 19 Turns and 12 days old.
Lana shakes her head. "We don't have any materials that will hold in water."
Zallan stands up and turns to the Dolphin Master, "There are several ways of waterproofing leather for short periods, and we are always seeking new treatments, So maybe one day we will be able to help you. We will be pleased to work with your people on this."
Evarin comes in from the Hallway.
Thorn nods slowly. "Aye, good to hear."
Lana quirks a brow. "Yeah, work with me."
Winnor looks at JeDera, his hand raised.
Aeia also raises her hand.
JeDera smiles at Winnor and nods.
Evarin skitters in and throws a sheepish look about, then strides swiftly over to take a seat quickly, trying not to interrupt as best he can.
T'nik walks out, closing the door behind him.
Tigre suddenly disappears ::between::!
Zallan turns to Master Lana, "That was what I was hoping we would be doing."
Tigre blinks in from ::between::!
Winnor leans forward. "Master Zallan, my craft will be in need of smooth, yet strong leatherwork for our working outfits next season as well as gear for the plowing beasts. Can you cope with a rather large amount?" He looks at Aeia. "Or are the Herdercraft well supplied with strapping gear to go with eventual beasts?"
Lana nods slightly.
Thorn calls to Tigre, who flies over and lands on his shoulder.
Aeia says, "As a matter of fact, Winnor, our gear is in poor condition. I was just about to bring up with Zallan with idea of trading beasts for leatherwork."
Zallan turns now to the Farmer, "We are still in our infancy on the island, having little more that 3 crafters here, but we can arrange to import Items certainly."
Winnor nods at Aeia and then Zallan. "Glad to hear it." He nods at JeDera. "Thanks."
Zallan nods to the Herder master, "We can arrange that certainly. As soon as we get a Tannery established we will require hides."
Aeia nods.
JeDera smiles. "Anyone else?"
Brian raises his hand.
JeDera nods at Brian
Brian says, "Master Zallan, you'll be a busy man if I hear everyone correctly.
Just as Master Thorn is looking for waterproof materials, I am always in need of material that resists heat better."
Zallan nods to the Mastersmith, "I'll send to Our crafter hall I believe that there may be some information on that there. OOC I know it can be done RL but not sure if Pern has the tech."
Brian glances at Lana, "Ordinary cloth just doesn't handle the heat of a forge well enough." looking back to Zallan, "Once you get a tannery functional, I may be interested in some experiments with you, if you are willing."
Evan comes in from the Hallway.
Evan Nods to others, as he takes a seat near birna.
Zallan nods, "Most certainly"
Cliya bows to people in the room and gives her father a quick wave before she
exits.
Cliya walks out, closing the door behind her.
Lana smiles a little.
Brian glances at Evan, then looks at JeDera, "I have an item for the agenda."
JeDera looks around, nods to Brian again. "After the vote?"
Zallan turns to Master Lana, "We must arrange a time for formal talks about our
crafts working together."
Lana smiles a little and nods. "I'd like that."
Zallan smiles in return, "As would I"
Brian nods to Jedera, "After the vote of course."
JeDera nods with a larger smile. "Anyone else have a question before we vote?"
Aeia can't think of one.
Taliesin shakes his head slightly..
Evan shakes his head.
JeDera smiles. "Alright then. Anyone objecting to the Tannercraft becoming a full craft on Ista Island, please raise yor hand. Remember, only lift your hand if you object."
Aeia does not object.
Brian looks at Zallan as he considers, but leaves his hand down.
