Drill Performed by the Telgar Mounted Guard
-Under the Direction of Telgar Stable Manager Aeia
(a whole bunch of Turns ago)
The Guard appears in a flash of Telgar Blue at the far end of
the performance ring. The six mounted guards trot two abreast down the long axis of the ring, the two riders in front bearing Telgar's colors on great flags held in their hands.
The Guard settles to a stop in the center of the ring. The
flag-bearers dip their flags, and all six riders salute the grandstand in unison, bowing their heads towards Lord Parik and Lady Jina and removing their hats.
The Guard moves back into a trot, completing their traversal of the ring. At the other end, they split up, the left rider of each pair peeling left and the right rider turning right. Two lines of three runners now trot briskly down the long sides of the ring.
The Guard turns in unison from the sides of the ring and heads across the center. The two lines of three runners pass through each other with perfect precision, reach the other side, and turn to travel along the sides of the ring again.
The Guard sweeps through the turn at the end of the ring, the two lines passing each other left shoulder to left shoulder. Next, the first rider of each file turns to head diagonally across the ring. The two lines meet in the middle and pass through each other, alternating left and right runners passing through the center point with flawless timing.
The Guard reunifies as the two files meet again at the far end, pairing up once more to start together down the center line. Once reaching the other side, they again part in brisk, clean turns.
The Guard peels off the sides of the ring to head towards each other again, but this time they do not pass through each other; the two files of three runners apiece close their formations until they are trotting shoulder to shoulder. Their pace slows as the two groups nearly pass each other, and suddenly their direction changes. They close formation until each runner nearly touches the other in a close line with three facing one way, three the other, and they begin to rotate. The two in the center trot nearly in place while those on the outside extend themselves, keeping the line perfectly straight as it spins.
The Guard breaks into its two halves again, and they separate into two files once more travelling along the sides of the ring.
The Guard reaches the far end of the ring. As each rider passes the middle mark, his runner moves into a canter.
The Guard heads across the diagonal lines again, the ranks passing through each other, now even more impressive at the faster speed.
The Guard drops back to a trot at the other side.
The Guard pairs back up again along the center line and trots to the center. Settling into a precise halt, the Guard salutes.
The Guard trots off the ring and towards the pickets.
