Katrina bounced joyfully up the stairs. Although it had only been a couple hours since the suicide incident, she now knew that she had people who cared and loved her. She entered the boys room where Diana and Walker were.
“Hi Katrina honey, we have good news and then a few questions to ask you,” Diana said, motioning for Katrina to sit on the navy blue bed which she was also seated at.
‘First we will tell you the good news,” Walker said, sharing a smile with his wife.
“What?” Katrina asked anxiously.
“Well, the police and medical staff have decided that we are able to go on another boat. This boat will be headed to New York where we will be discussing arrangements with a few police officers and attending the joint funeral for your parents. We will be stopping in a port about an hour away from here and it will take 3 days to get there,” Walker explained. Katrina on the other hand was still quite confused, “Why are they having the funeral in New York? We live in Florida!”
“Well, in your parents will it stated that they’d like to be buried here. They said this is where they went for their honeymoon,” Diana told Katrina.
“Oh yeah, I forgot they went they’re for their honeymoon,” Katrina replied.
“But we have you one question before we go,” Walker informed her.
“Okay, what do you want to know?” Katrina asked.
“ Do you have any relatives?” Walker read off a piece of paper.
“No, not anymore. My mom’s mother died when my mom was just 5 of measles. My grandpa died when I was 3. My dad’s mom just died like a year ago and his dad died before I was born. Both my parents are only child’s, so I don’t have any aunts or uncles,” Katrina answered.
“Oh, I’m so sorry,” Diana exclaimed, putting her arm around Katrina. Katrina thanked her, while Walker finished scribbling down what Katrina had said.
“I just have to run this down to the police in the captain’s office. Diana will you start packing?” Walker questioned her.
“All right,” Diana answered. Katrina ran downstairs and explained to everyone that they had to start packing.
“Why?” Mackie whined.
“Yeah, I don’t wanna leave,” Avery pouted, sticking her bottom lip out.
“We are just going on a little trip to New York, remember the place with the big buildings and where we filmed a bit of Tulsa, Tokyo and the Middle of Nowhere?” Isaac asked his younger siblings.
“Oh yeah, the Big Orange!” Jessica exclaimed gleefully.
“Oh Jess....that’s the Big Apple,” Zac remarked, laughing.
“Where?” Jessie asked, looking around. Zac started to speak, but Isaac cut him off with a “Never mind.” Everyone ran “upstairs” to their bedrooms. Katrina followed the boys into theirs. Zac started throwing all his clothes into his suitcase.
“Uh...Zac?” Katrina asked, giggling.
“What?” Zac replied innocently.
“Don’t you think you might want to fold those clothes?” Katrina said, still laughing.
“All right....” Zac said with a exaggerated sigh. It was chaos during this packing session with the Hansons. It had only been 15 minutes and already Taylor had lost his favorite t-shirt, Zac had stepped on Isaac’s toe and slammed his own finger in the door and Isaac had tripped over all the suitcases, only to cause a big bruise to appear on his left cheek. Katrina played “nurse” to all of those incidents. She got a bandaid for Zac’s finger, made sure Isaac was all right and helped Tay find his lost silver shirt (which was basically right in front of his face!). When they finally had finished Katrina was tired and she hadn’t even done any packing! They all headed downstairs, boys with suitcases in hands. Diana was already running around the place, packing everything into various suitcases and travel bags.
“Diana?” Katrina asked, running to catch up to her.
“Y...y..yes?” Diana asked, out of breath.
“What about my clothes in my cabin and other stuff?” said Katrina.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, the police already have all of your stuff, Walker will pick it up on his way there,” Diana said, pushing a long blond strand of hair from her eyes.
“Does he need any help?” asked Katrina in a concerned voice.
“He’ll be fine,” Diana answered.
“Do you need any help?” Katrina asked her.
“Could you help the younger kids with their packing?” Diana replied.
“Sure!” Katrina said with a smile.
“Thanks” Diana said with gratitude. Katrina, Taylor and Isaac decided they’d split up. Katrina would help Avery, Taylor would help Jessie and Isaac would help Mackenzie. Zac decided he’d assist his mom downstairs.
In a half an hour or so, they were done. They all headed down to the first deck. The other passengers were being told it was an emergency stop and they may not get off. The Hanson family and Katrina is tow, got dropped off at large dock. A few minutes later, the boat arrived. The people asked for some identification, and let the Hansons and Kat into the boat. Mrs.Hanson then explained the sleeping arrangement.
“Walker, I and Mackie will be sharing a room. Jessica, Avery and Kat in the other. You 3 boys are in another room, one door down from the girls,” Diana informed everyone.
“Oh man, can’t Kat share a room with us?” Taylor complained.
“Taylor...” Walker said in a stern voice.
“Okay, okay,” Taylor replied, trudging up the stairs to the 3rd floor where everyone would be sleeping. His parents and brothers followed after him, luggage in hand. While Katrina followed them, carrying Avery on her back.
By the time they had finished unpacking, it was bedtime. Katrina snuck over to the boys room and gave Tay a kiss on the cheek goodnight. She then quietly got into her PJ’s, being careful not to wake up Avery and Jess. She curled up into a ball and snuggled into her blankets. She thought bout what a long and yet horribly wonderful day this had been. She fell asleep soon after that, with visions of Taylor singing in her head.
