My Academic Years

Hey, didn't know that you are interested in my academic life as well!

I'm currently studying in a local university called Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten).  If you would like to know more about this university, then do visit the link below to gather further information.

However, my degree would actually be from Lincoln Unviersity in Christchurch, New Zealand.  It is a joined programme between Uniten and Lincoln.  I have already obtained a degree in Bachelor of Commerce and Management (Honours), majoring in finance and accounting.

I only have one more semester to go.  After that, I would have to be out in the rough world looking for a decent job in this terrible economic situation currently faced by a lot of Asian countries.  Below is two links, one regarding the joined programme offered at Uniten by Lincoln University and the other is Lincoln University's main page.  Do visit them if you have the time….

Here, I'm not going to dwell into my academic performance as they are after all not that outstanding.  I'm just an average student trying to pass all the subjects in each semester and move along to the next one.

During my years in Uniten (previously known as Ikatan), I've learn a lot and found myself mature a lot as well.  I've learned to live independently and I've enjoyed life away from home.  Not that I'm not close to my family members but it's just that I enjoyed my freedom when I'm attending university as it is in another state, a few hours drive away from my hometown in Penang.

For the first three years I was there, I lived in the dormitories and life in there was a whole new experience for me.  I've met a lot of people and befriended a lot of them.  Of course, there are people whom we didn't turn out to be real friends, but what the heck!  You can't expect everybody to like you!!!  I've also learned to endure terrible food, and I think the cooks in my university's canteen are about one of the worst cooks!  Some of the food may be quite nice but most of the time, it's appalling!  Sorry to say that…  I've had four different roomates during my three year stay in the dorms.  They made us change roomates pretty often so that we would learn to adapt to people and their different culture.  If there is one thing I've learned well there, it has got to be this:

ADAPT OR DIE

Nevertheless, life in Uniten was fun as it's convenient to visit friends even in the wee hours of the morning.  At times, we can just chat in each other's room til 5 or 6 in the morning, get about an hour or two's sleep and go for classes!  Sometimes, we would just get together and cook instant noodles in our rooms!  These are all the times which really meant a lot to me and it would be one of the most memorable events of my life.

I've had a lot of rooms during my stay there but I think the most remembered by my friends and I would be Room 63!  During my ESL (English as a Second Language) course there, I would say my friends and I had our headquarters and that would definitely be Room 37!

I've made a  lot of good friends when getting my first degree and three of them now stays with me in a rented apartment for my Honours programme.  Another one left after graduation but we do constantly keep in touch with each other.  Two more left for the States to obtain their respective degree.  Those who went to the States are in the engineering programme.

Now that it's my final year, things have looked like it's pretty routine!  Nothing unusually exciting happens anymore but I am looking forward to move on to the next chapter of my life, the "Working Life".
