Sam is a real sweetheart! He's an Egyptian Rat (not a hooded rat) and he's SOOOOOOOOOOO fat! He's very spoiled and eats a lot of human food. He's not very healthy, and Leisa decided that if he was going to die anyways in such a short time, he might as well eat the food he loves.
He's a painfully shy little guy, with tons of affection if you can get into his shell. It turned out that he was way more receptive to animal company than to human when we introduced him to Furbles, and because that had gone so well, we decided to introduce him to the little party Furbles and Buster were having. He sure did liven it up too!
He's actually my brother's rat, and he was having quite a great time exploring his shirt! Hopefully Sam will get to spend more time out of his cage now that he's become a little more outgoing.
Speaking of cage, Sam doesn't live in an ordinary cage or aquarium home like most rodents. He was so shy that they gave him a cat carrier for a home, and he loves it! It's nice and dark for him to hide in, but he can still look out through the front bars and there's plenty of ventilation from the slots on the side. So if you have a rodent that's very shy and you're looking for a different kind of home, try it! I wouldn't recommend it for smaller ones though, as I know my mice would have climbed out the air holes in a snap!
Hopefully Sam will stay with us for awhile longer. He's a great little guy!
