The Mirror

We have spent so many countless hours together
Just talking, laughing, and even sometimes crying
We still have so much to learn about each other
And yet I feel I have know you all of my life

Aren't you the one I used to imagine?
When thinking of the future, and what it would bring
Aren't you the one I dreamed of?
Watching, I could see us building a life together

In all of those thoughts
And during all of my dreams
Not once did I stop to consider that when I met you
You would have started that life without me

Who is this woman lying beside you?
The person you wake up with every morning
I watch as she walks to the mirror
The reflection, it is not me

This is not at all what I had imagined
Not at all how I thought it would be
As I glance back to the mirror
My only thought is, that should be me
