ALTERNATIVE HEALING
There are many different techniques for healing, most of which were developed hundreds of years ago by ancient civilizations. I've tried to explain most of the ones I've actually used and some I have yet to try. Keep in mind, these are all succsessful techniques but they don't always work for everybody. Feel free to let me know what your experiences with them have been.
ACUPUNCTURE: Developed in China almost 6,000 years ago, Acupuncture is based on the theory that disease is simply an imbalance in the meridian system, which is the energy pathways of the body. Hair-thin disposable needles are inserted at specific points along the meridian to stimulate or disperse the flow of Chi to correct the imbalance. AYURVEDA: A 5,000 year old holistic science born in India, the name Ayurveda literally translates as "life knowledge". It's principles are healing, rejuvenation and self-realization through herb's, diet, exercise, yoga, massage, aroma, meditation and mantras. According to the theory, health depends upon a balance between the elements of fire, water, earth and air of which we are composed. An excess of one or more causes imbalance, which creates illness. There are three basic body types, Vata(thin), Pitta(muscular) and Kapha(fat) which have an influence on health, along with genetic, congenital, electrical and seasonal factors. CHINESE MEDICINE: Developed in China over 3,000 years ago it is a technique which treats the relationship of a symptom to the person as a whole. The basics include analysis, interpretation and treatment, including the factors of environment, behavior, emotional stage, season and age. Treatment usually combines Acupuncture, Acupressure, herbology, nutrition and preventative maintenence along with a technique similar to Ayurveda. CRYSTAL THERAPY: Dating back to the Incan, Mayan and Egyptian civilizations, the ancient practice of crystal healing places quartz and other stones on and around the body to stimulate and sensitize vibration patterns and release energy blockages. Crystals draw light and color to the body's aura, allowing healing vibrations to emerge. FENG SHUI: The Chinese have long studied the relationship between humans and their environments. Natural elements and electromagnetic energy affects people's lives, so the Chinese learned to live in harmony with these forces to attract health, wealth and harmony. Feng Shui is some 4,000 years old and used to locate harmonious sites for buildings and to make interior adjustments to the home in an effort to increase productivity, improve sleep, create harmony, resolve conflicts and stimulate energy. HANDS ON HEALING: This technique has been used for centuries by shamans, priests and doctors. The healer connects the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual facets of the patients psyche, rebalancing the chakras and energy fields to heal teh mind, body and spirit through touch. HOMEOPATHY: A science developed by a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann over 200 years ago, this technique goes on the principle that like cures like. It employs doses of natural mineral, herbal and animal substances to heal the body. It was Hahnemann's belief that symptoms of illness should not be supressed because they are simply the body's efforts to repel the disease. Like psychologists have learned that supressing emotion leads to illness and expressing that emotion helps to cure it, the supression of symptoms leads to illness, while releasing said symptoms cures. REIKI: A scientific method of activating and balancing the life force energy. Hand placement techniques are used on the body to channel energy to organs, glands and align the chakras. Generally used as a health maintenence, disease prevention and healing art. SHIATSU: A form of acupressure used in Japan over 1,000 years ago. It uses varying rhythms and degrees of pressure to balance the Chi energy that flows along the meridians. It releases tension to allow areas to return to normal circulation, cleansing of the cells and improved organ function. YOGA: The concept of discipline leading to union. Forms that concentrate on posture and alignment, mental control, breathing and meditation techniques to calm the emotions and tone the body, creating a state of unity. |
