Reeve family House Rules
(last revised July 11, 1997)
- One person is allowed at a time on the trampoline, and it has a 60 pound weight limit.
- No jumping off of the trampoline to the ground.
- No jumping on the stairs. No jumping off the stairs. No jumping down the stairs. No
climbing up the outside railing of the stairs. No dangling from the bannister of the stairs.
No throwing things from the upstairs landing. No throwing things down the stairs.
- Crayons are only allowed at a table or the art easel.
- Play-doh is only allowed at a table and under adult supervision.
- Finger paints are to be used outside, using the white plastic chairs and white plastic
tables. Samantha must wear her art smock when she is finger painting.
- No standing on chairs. There is a step stool downstairs, usually either in the kitchen or
bathroom. There is also a step stool upstairs in the bathroom.
- Always wash hands before eating or before cooking. Samantha still needs help with the
soap because she doesn't like to use it.
- We use cloth napkins. They are kept in the cabinet in the island. After the meal, put the
used napkins on top of the dryer to be washed.
- We do not eat at mealtime until after we say grace. This is not required for snacks.
- We have toddler knives, with blunt edges, for practice. Samantha is not allowed to put
the knife in her mouth.
- Samantha is not allowed to "spoon" her dip. If she wants dip (ie, ketchup, Ranch
dressing, etc), she must dip something into it.
- No fingers in glasses at the table. Also, no putting silverware in the cup and "stirring".
- No grape juice (or any other equally staining beverage) in an open glass - it must go into
a cup with a lid. Water, milk, orange juice, etc can be put in an open glass. An open
glass can only be used outside or at the kitchen table. When beverages are consumed at
the small table in the living room, they must be in a cup with a lid.
- Samantha is not allowed to have soda. We usually give her water at snack time and give
her the choice of milk or water at meal time. We do not offer juice. If she requests
juice, we limit her to no more than two glasses per day.
- Samantha is not allowed to have peanuts per her Pediatrician's strong recommendation.
- Hands and face need to be wiped off after meals. We use the cup-towels in the kitchen
for this and then put the dirty ones on top of the dryer.
- Appliances in the kitchen need to remain unplugged when not in use because Samantha
can reach the counters with the step stool.
- For the same reason, when stacking dirty dishes on the counter, make sure that the knives
are all the way back in the window sill.
- No jumping on the furniture or the bed or the crib.
- No feeding Murphy. She only eats dog food and it goes in her dish. An adult must
approve the giving of dog treats.
- Bubbles and chalk, which are kept in the cabinet above the dryer, are for outside use
only.
- No more than two tubs of toys may be in use at one time. The toy tubs can be carried
downstairs or played with upstairs.
- Television watching is limited to 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the
afternoon. All shows must be approved by Mommy or Daddy. The exception to this
rule: Samantha may watch more television on days when she doesn't feel well. The
Mommy approved videos are kept in the cabinet above the television along with the
VCR.
- Computer time is limited to no more than 45 minutes per day.
- Snacks are limited to the following three locations: outside, at the kitchen table, at the
little table in the living room.
- With the exception of water, beverages are limited to the same three locations. Water, in
a Rubbermaid-juice type container, is allowed anywhere (within reason!)
- The sewing room, behind the locked double doors downstairs, and the guest bedroom,
behind the door with a tot-guard handle, are off limits to toddlers.
- No hitting.
- Toys that cannot be shared get put up so that no one plays with them.
- Unless it is dusk, Samantha must wear sunblock and a hat when she plays outside. Make
sure that she gets plenty of water when outside; she doesn't do well in the heat.
- Samantha must be holding the hand of an adult if she goes into the street.
- Everyone must wear a helmet when bike riding, including the tricycle, or riding in the
bike cart.
- With the new playscape, only one person on the slide at a time.
- Do not run and jump on the outside walls of the ball pit.
Bless us O Lord, for these gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ
our Lord. Amen.
