Kaoru ran out the door after a minute of sitting, thinking. He looked around for the red-haired man and finally spotted him, sitting in a little ball next to the front wall of the building, taking long drags on a cigarette. Kaoru knew that Die knew that he was there, but Die didn't acknowledge his presence. Moving closer to him, Kaoru said softly, "Die, I-"
Die cut him off. "You probably shouldn't come any closer, Kaoru-sama, I might molest you." His eyes showed indifference, face blank of any emotion as he stared off at some spot in the distance.
"Die, don't say that," Kaoru pleaded, going closer still.
"Or maybe you'll catch my horrible disease and you'll become gay."
Kaoru felt terrible. "Die, look at me." Still, Die didn't avert his gaze from his distant spot and pretended not to hear Kaoru. Defiantly, the leader squatted down in front of Die, putting a hand on his face, and pushing his head sideways to look at him. He leaned forward ever so slightly, then stopped, heart beating madly. Determined, he closed the gap between them, letting his lips meet Die's ever so lightly. The very slightest response came from Die as his lips moved gently against Kaoru's, until the leader pulled back.
Die gazed at Kaoru sadly. All the sparkle had left his eyes, leaving them dim and dark. "Why'd you kiss me?" he asked quietly.
Getting nervous, Kaoru replied, "Wh-what do you mean?"
"Why'd you kiss me if you don't like me? It isn't nice to tease people with false hopes, Kaoru-sama." A single tear slid out of the corner of his eye.
The purple-haired man sighed, taking a seat on the ground next to Die. "Die, listen to me. When you said what you did in there, I wasn't expecting it," he explained. "The problem is, I've been trying to sort out my feelings lately and maybe I felt scared, or something, afraid that I would choose the wrong feelings. But I thought about it, and I think I've been feeling the same way. I'm getting attracted to you." Die just listened in silence, same blank expression on his handsome face. Kaoru continued. "I decided that the way I've been feeling whenever you were around me was more than just friends. Whenever you're with me, I feel excited, happy, almost nervous, in a way. Because I'm the leader, I always have to be serious, the strong one, rely on my strength. But I really need to just be able to have someone there to protect me, sometimes, to let me be the insecure person I really am. So Die, I," he paused. "I'm sorry. I hope that you still feel the same way towards me, because I'm... I'm falling in love with you."
No response came from Die, save for quiet, irregular breathing. Frustrated and hurt, Kaoru stood up, yelling, "Fine! If you don't want me, I'm sorry I came out here!" He turned on his heels to reenter the restaurant when he heard a quiet sniffling coming from behind him that stopped him in his tracks. A pang of sadness inside of him, he turned around, seeing Die rest his head on his knees, shoulders shaking gently. Kaoru felt like a monster for making Die cry like that. Even if Die hadn't been responding, he shouldn't have exploded like that.
Walking back over to the crying man, he sat down again, wrapping his arms around Die's broad shoulders. "Shh, it's all right, I'm sorry," Kaoru whispered into the side of the other guitarist's face, nuzzling his face against the soft cheek. Kaoru felt Die's arms slowly wrap around his back, holding him close as he cried into his shoulder. Softly, Kaoru stroked Die's red hair down, letting his fingers rest on the back of his strong neck. Die's body was warm in his arms, strong, yet at the same time seeming vulnerable.
Finally, Die looked up with eyes red from crying. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to let you see me cry," he whispered. "I wanted to be strong for you. But, I couldn't."
Kaoru was touched at Die's confession. "It's all right, there's no need for that," he told him, gently kissing the sides of his eyes.
"That's not how I imagined it," Die mumbled, still letting his hands rest on Kaoru's back.
   "Imagined what?"
"Me telling you how I felt."
Curiousity sparked, Kaoru inquired, "How'd you imagine it?"
Die blushed, responding, "I'll feel stupid if I tell you."
"Die, I've already told you that I love you, don't feel stupid, now how did you imagine it?"
Biting his lip, Die replied, "Well, I imagined me being stronger, smoothly telling you that I love you like they do in the movies. If you liked me, I was hoping that you would cry happily and fling yourself into my arms, and... and if it was for the worse, I thought you'd stand up disgusted, leave, and never speak to me again. Maybe throw me out of the band."
Kaoru was overwhelmed by Die's honesty. "I'm sorry I didn't respond how you wanted me to," he apologized, leaning forward against Die's body.
   "It's okay."
Looking Die in the eyes, Kaoru asked, "Hey, do you wanna go back to my place? You're having a rough night, I can make you some food and we can just talk in private."
The simple offer sounded good to Die, but he asked, "What about the food here, though? It already came."
"I can have it boxed for later," Kaoru replied.
"Then that sounds good," Die told him, smiling. Before he let Kaoru go, he stole one quick kiss, loving the feeling of Kaoru's soft lips. The purple-haired man grazed his lips lightly against Die's cheek, then went in and took care of things in the restaurant before returning to Die. Walking up next to him, he nervously slipped his hand into Die's, trying to keep his cool and just look forward as though it were nothing. Much to his relief, Die closed his fingers around Kaoru's small hand, beaming down at him happily.
Die was surprised at how sweet Kaoru was being, He never thought of him as the romantic type, but he found this side of him very attractive, as he did all the other sides. He was so proud to be the one to get to hold the pretty man close to him, to kiss him and hold his hand. He was sure that everyone was envying him then. In a happy silence, they walked together back to Kaoru's apartment.
