SPAM!!

Ah, Spam.

Spam came along in the 1930's, as far as I know. It first became well known in the 40's because of WWII soldiers, who had the tasty thing in their rations. Now there's a way to inspire troops! Give them Spam!! Well, perhaps the idea was to drive them into a frenzy through the bad taste. But now with the intro done, here's a few links to bits about Spam:

My own family Spam Story

I had lotsa relatives in WWII, lots of great uncles and such. Well after the war one of them, I'm not positive who, was coming home. His wife decided to make him a feast, and she bought Spam, which was very hard to come by in those days, as most of it was overseas with troops. Well she spent a long time searching, and finally found some Spam, a strange and even exotic food to her. She read the recipes and cooked her husband some Spam for dinner (as well as other things, it wasn't just Spam). He came home and saw the Spam and was flabbergasted let's say. He'd been eating Spam on the front line for months, in every way you can possibly think of, like the shrimp guy from Forrest Gump. Well needless to say he was none too happy, and I think he despised Spam ever after. They did have a happy homecoming though, the meal wasn't all Spam :)

Spam Throughout the Ages!

Well like I said, Spam has been around quite awhile, since the 30's I believe. It was invented in Austin, Texas, where there is now a yearly Spam Festival, with Spam bands, Spam sculptures, Spam Cook-Offs, Spam everything. Feel free to visit this link, Spamtown USA, all about Austin, which is really one of the neatest cities in the U.S., I think. Well, Spam is made by the Hormel Company, and they even have an official Spam page, Spam.com. I wish my email address was Squidpants@Spam.com! And recently, big news has hit Spam. The can of Spam has a new picture on it, a scrumptious looking Spamburger. The old picture (you can see it in the backgound) was a lump of Spam done up nicely with little spices and garnishes and things. O! Progress has hit thee, Spam.Back the the Top

Famous Spam!

Spam is famous. We all know it. Unfortunatley Spam now has bad connotations, since junk email is called "Spam." What a travesty. But oh well, it's also famous in the media! Spam has been the subject of numerous songs, poems, books, (I guess?), and yes, even tv shows. Most notably of the latter is Monty Python's Flying Circus, and their infamous Spam Sketch, where vikings fall through the roof of a restaraunt that serves Spam in all the dishes. Just to add confusion (and lots of noise) the vikings are chanting "Spam spam..." etc, which is now known as the famous Spam Song. Imagine that. Spam is memorialized on the Monty Python Website. There is also a very famous Spam Haiku Archive on the web, of which I am a contributor (of like 2, don't worry). There is also a Chruch of Spam, Spam Conspiracy Theorists (I hope that's not their day job) etc, etc. I really can't provide for all of these links, so at the bottom of this page I have a link to Yahoo's Society and Culture Spam Index. Interesting place for it hmm?
Well, that's about it. Please tell your friends about my great Spam page! I do however have a few Spam pictures for downloading. I have a small one, a medium one, and an almost life-size one. Knock yourselves out!Back the the Top
