Biography
Kurt Cobain (Aberdeen/US, vocals, guitar)
Chris Novoselic (Aberdeen, bass)
Aaron Burkhat (drums)
Cobain and Novoselic had been
playing together since 85, when they were introduced by Buzz Osborne,
the Melvins leader, a pioneer band in the "Seattle scene". Thats when
Nirvana got together, though only in 87.
Still in 87, Nirvana signs the labor Sub Pop, in Seattle. Their first
single was released in 88, the song "Love Buzz", produced by Jack Endino.
"Bleach", the first album was released in June 89. Back then, Chad Channing
was the drummer (the guitar player Jason Everman, even though credited,
did not participate in the album, performing only on stage. He left
the band during a "Bleach" tour). This album sold about 30,000 copies,
with the hit "Silver" in the college radios parades. Also in 89, the EP
"Blew" is released.
In the 90's, Nirvana leaves Sub Pop
and sign with Geffen. Now, Dabe Grohl takes Danny Peter's place, who,
after a short period with Nirvana, had just joined Mudhoney. Their
biggest success album, "Nevermidn" is released in 91. It's first single,
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" was a great hit in MTV. The next hits are
"Come as you Are" and "Lithium".
With tours in Europe and US the band becomes famous for breaking instruments
on stages.
In February 24th, 1992, Cobain marries
Courtney Love, leader and vocals of "Hole". In 94, after escaping from
a reabilitation clinic, Kurt Cobain is found dead in his house. He had
committed suicide by shooting himself on the head. Millions of fans
all over the world were shocked. Part of his ashes are kept in a dummy
that Love carries with her.
