Along with Stormwatch, Patriot exemplify American Oi!. Based in Chapel Hill, NC, the band's sound has been described as "Oi!-core" but as far as I'm concerned, Patriot's music is an example of how good ol' American ingenuity can make a great thing even better! I saw them for the first time at the Scooter Rallly and F'in Party put on by the Pietasters in Wilmer's Park near D.C. and was duly impressed. Nice guys to boot...hell, the whole CHBC were just damn nice people (Cheers to you lot from B.S.S.C.) !
Getting back to the band, Patriot got together in October of 1990 and are now made up of Eddie "Hagar" Oakes on lead vocals, Gordon "Sharkey" King on guitar and backing vocals, Brian Lawton on bass and backing vocals, and Chip pounding the skins. Their songs range from girls and beer (you have to like 'em already!) to their positions on given issues. Musically, the band describes their sound as very ecclectic, being influenced by thrash metal such as Slayer and hardcore like Agnostic Front as well as the Business, 4skins, Blitz, and other classic Oi! bands. Speaking of classic Oi!, Patriot's cover of Cock Sparrer's "Where Are They Now?" is one of the best I've ever heard.
But like any self respecting skinhead, I'm sure the band would want to speak for themselves so here's two interviews that I've lifted from some old zines. The first one is from Welcome to the Real World (now defunct) and the second one is a rather humorous interview first published in Skins, Rudies, and Mods.
