"Return of the Space Cowboy," Jamiroquai's second album, was released in 1994. On this album, Jay and the band took more of an introspective take on their surroundings and the events that took place up until the release. With the release of "Emergency On Planet Earth," which sold more than one and a half million copies worldwide, the usual press reaction occurred. Personal attacks and allegations were made regarding Jay Kay's lifestyle in accordance with the message sent on the album. Among the other abuses, some reporters/writers attacked Jay's doomsday view of the environment, when actually he might have been degrading the air quality with the sports-cars he drives around downtown London. However, in spite of all these hurtful accusations, Jay persevered and released what I honor as one of the great albums in the history of Jazz and Funk. A few tracks on the album, such as: "Half the Man," and "Stillness in Time," tend to reflect the enormous pressure being exerted on Jay at the point in time. While other truly funky and very hip tracks like: "The Kids," and "Just Another Story," are consistent with the message sent on "Emergency..." All in all this album is fantastic, and truly did away with my indifference about the band. "Return of the Space Cowboy" is an emotional roller-coaster ride. It encapsulates feelings of hurt and frustration, and love and happiness all in one 71 minute, 54 second package. A definite purchase, if you don't already own it. |

The lyrics page (and all subsequent lyric pages in progress) have been removed indefinitely due to a warning from EMI publishing, who owns the rights to the lyrics on all Jamiroquai albums. I am looking into obtaining a license to print these lyrics, but until that time, I will have no lyrics for any Jamiroquai albums posted on this site. |
