Adopting the punk ethic of "D.I.Y" the band recorded and released
the EP "four sore points" on their own DOSE record label,
selling most copies at local gigs and through various fanzines.
Mansfield label Rondelet Records picked up on the buzz around the band
and signed them following a storming gig for the new members Will Hoon
and Kev Nixon (bass and drums). Rondelet re-issued the "four sore points"
in late 1980 (on clear vinyl this time) and followed it in january -81
with the "let them free" three track 45 which was issued in red vinyl and
topped the UK independent chart.
Promotor John Curd then invited the band to participate in the now
legendary "Apocalypse now"tour along with Discharge,
The Exploited, Chron gen and the Anti-nowhere league.
The extra nation-wide exposure generated by the tour, including a
"sounds" front cover for the band, helped to push their debut LP
"The last call" into the national charts were it stayed for six weeks
peaking at No.31.
A second Indie chart topper came courtesy of the "Six guns" EP and
was followed by further UK sell-out gigs as well as a tour of the Usa,
Anti-Pasti being the first second wave punkband to visit the U.S
However, the pressure on the band to repeat such success led them
to enter the studios without being fully prepared and resulted in the
disappointing "East to the west" single which, though a strong seller
led to a certain amount of disenchantment amongst the bands
predominantly Punk following.
The single also saw their line-up expand to a five piece with the addition
of the guitarist Olly Hoon but though they gigged a lot extensively
to promote the "Caution in the wind" LP and single, including
a tour of Holland, it was clear that all wasn´t well in the Anti-Pasti camp
and vocalist Roper quit soon after the albums release.
The remaining four members continued a short while as Anti-Pasti
with drummer Kev Nixon assuming lead vocal duties.
In fact they did record some new material, including the songs
"Gauler give me water" and "Til victory", though none have ever
seen the light of day as Anti-Pasti finally went their separate ways
in mid -84.
