Malcolm X, a leading proponent of black nationalism and the Islamic religion, was assassinated in 1965. He was a minister of the black Muslims, but was suspended b/c of his dissenting views after a time. He formed his own group, Afro-American Unity, which became a rival of the black Muslims. His death is attributed by the authorities and his family to the black Muslims.
