DECEMBER

Intro Ah yes once again I've managed to overshoot the record reviews but at least I got them done before Christmas to give ya all a good reason to buy crappy pressies and splurge out on some rekkids instead. Seeing as Christmas is normally boring as fuck I've given meself the objective to getan MP3 file of every rekkid I'v ever reviewed done up for the site. Dunno how this will go but I've got a good few done already so depending on space it should be up and running by the new year. Anyways the reviews.

Pressurehead vs UK Skullfuck-Surgeon 16 #5

Oh yes the time has come, after a wait of almost a year the next release from the Surgeon 16 crew has arrived. This one encompassing all members of the crew. So was it worth the wait. Of course it fuckin was. Pressurehead comin back with full effect. The boyz have obviously become pissed off with the same old shit coming out month after month so they've hit us with something new and improved. First two tracks are totally experimental and only DJ's with real balls will try and incorporate them into their sets. The best way of describing these tunes is drum and bass as a terror freak would make it. Hard amen breaks underpinned by savage super tough gabber kicks, that keep dropping in and out and have the best produced sound effects I have ever heard in any tune. Then the final tune "track 16" is the one that will be dropped by all the DJ's. Eerie synth intro with warped breakbeats gives way to machine gun style beats that makes you think it's gonna be some mad speedcore tune, when in fact it comes in at a reasonable 200 bpm. When it does kick in it has the most evil drawn out stab, similar to what was used in outcast's drum n bass tune, in the background while the beats roll, drop out, drop in and do all sorts of mad shit until the break is reached. Here we have a super affected break that rolls until the whole track kicks off again. On the flip we've got the two nuttiest guys in the world of noizecore. I ain't gonna go in depth into these tracks cause I'd finish writing this review a couple of dayz later. It is unreal how much different shit is continously going on in all four of these tunes, they are completely torn to ribbons, with the odd break to say shit like "clashes with riot police are frequent". Second track is the best with speed being in at least the mid 300bpm's with Noizecreator style speech samples going off and Dom the Destroyer metal riffs tearing up the place. You just gotta here these tunes to hear how mental they are. So if it takes another year to get another release from the suregeons, I for one don't mind waiting. All in all an absolute essential for all those who are sick and tired of hearing the same old shit and want something to spice up their sets, grab this quick. Also look out for new sub-label from the Surgeon 16 boyz called "Needleteeth" which will be on the skullfuck, experimental tip. Don't know when the first release is due but you'll find a review of it here first.

Dr. Machette-Damaged Skull EP-Special Forces #5

This my first special forces release and if this is anything to go by it won't be my last. People always went on about this label, #3 by Re-Pete in particular and now I can see why. Dr. Machette is the alias for Sacha(1/2 of UK Skullfuck) so if you haven't guessed yet, this is one for all the speedcore headz. The first 2 tunes suprisingly enough don't have any real beat structure they're more soundscapes than tunes which are excelent to just sit back and chill to especially seeing as they are such evil bastards of tunes. Then we move on to "Disco Carnage" which strangely enough is a pretty straight forward speedcore tune, which reminds me a lot of "Radio Rapist" on surge#2 by skullfuck, particularly the way he cuts the strings with cymbols and beats. The build up to the track is beats with all the usual hallmark screams and distorted snares. The main break is where it all happens. The intro string is abused by some death metal vocal and then another more evil string comes in under it with beats rolling over the top until the first string overcomes everything. Then all mayhem kicks in again with screams and all sorts of shit. Class tune. On the flip you've got 2 true skullfuck tunes in the spirit of "La Haine" and "Ave 'em" with one having a seriously distorted guitar riff from Slayer's "South of Heaven". Deadly extreme terror, that you'll find an absolute cunt to mix but if you wanna totally fuck with a crowd drop these as your last tune and then finish them off with one of the soundscapes. Right who's gonna book me so as I can actually try out this experiment?????? No-one??? OK I'll just keep on writing reviews so. So do you want this record?????? OF COURSE YA FUCKIN DO YA DUMB CUNT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pariah-The Bedroom Tracks vol. 1.0- Born To Kill #4

Yes I like this fuckin EP, got so many tunes that I like so much this month. Out on Simon Undergrounds label, this is Pariah. Never heard of this bloke before but if this track is anything to go by, will be hearing a lot more from him. Most effective track is "instant karma". Starts off with a nice fat kick which rolls nicely for you to mix until it reaches the first break. Here he unleashes a savage dark drawn out synth which is intensified all the more when he drops the beats machine gun style at twice the speed of the original speed. Pretty monotonous in what happens as it is mainly him fuckin with the beats and shit but because the stab is so effective it allows him to do this without boring ya to bits. That's the tune really, simple but very effective which would be a real crowd pleaser especially seeing as the speed of the track varies so much you wouldn't clear the floor with it and still keep the faster heads interested in what you are doing. Other tune that really deserves a mention is "training program" for it's main break really weird stab used. Sounds a bit like a chyme but isn't, very different and nice. Basically good quality hardcore with choons packed full of ideas that vary in intensity and thus allow you to go from a fairly tough sounding set to a super tough set. A must for everyone's record box this regardless if your hardcore/techno, speedcore whatever, chances are you'll like this and if ya don't you know the e-mail to send the hate mail to.

Various-Hardcore Fuckers 2-SRVL #1

OK got this one on white from steffan of Soundbase. Very little info on it for ya. Just know that this vinyl contains the 4 exclusive tracks from the new Hardcore Fuckers CD being released by Soundbase, the rest of the tracks on the CD being released on vinyl earlier this year. Don't even know if this piece of vinyl is gonna go on sale, don't even know what SRVL stands for, so until steffan fills me in, you'll have to e-mail him yourself. Right the artists on this piece of vinyl are all heavyweights in the hardcore scene. On one side we got Max Death and Noizecreator and on the other side we got Nasenbluten and Cannibal DJ. The Nasenbluten is in their usual 8 bit I made this on a $300 computer style that we all know and love 'em for. Got a long interesting drawn intro with lots of nice bleeps and breaks until it kicks off with a fairly solid kick until it reaches the break. Break reverts to the beeps and breaks of the intro and when kicks off lots of nice different percussionary effects are used. Fans of Nasenbluten will love this one, a good middle of set track. Cannibal DJ (aka DJ Tron) is back after a long break due to illness. Break sees him come back in more subdued form with his track weighing in at about 230 bpm rather than the 280 -300bpm which he is renowned for. Track has all his familiar traits though, solid kicks with distorted claps and snares and off course when it's the Cannibal DJ you gotta have some sorta scream in there somewhere and this one goes "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh mommy" funny. On the flip you've got the best track which is done by the king of terror, Mr. Noizecreator himself. The minute you hear this ya know it's him. Some mad German screaming something with solid kicks underpinning and breaking for the odd guitar riff, until the whole tune builds up to the main riff. Here we get some mad "classical" music which sounds a bit like his "Cape Fear" track off rage Records a while back. This is done very well as he uses break beats in perfect time that they cut out for certain bits of the track, gotta hear it it's hard to explain. So I don't know if I'm teasing you by putting this review in cause it mightn't ever be released, if that's the case, what can I say go and buy the CD, it's one of the few "true" terror CD's on the market, so Idon't wanna hear none of this bullshit "ah vinyl's too expensive". This costs a tenner and ya get about 12 tracks on it so a perfect stocking filler for christmas(can't believe I just said that!!!!!!).

Syndicate-Visions of Death-Bloody Fist #18

What the fuck is going on are the aussies trying to take over the hardcore world or something. It seems every month I'm reviewing at least one tune from down under. After Outcast's super tough drum n bass outing we go back to the sound that the bodgy foot boyz are infamous for. Layout and everything is the same. 6 tracks with 3 being hardcore workouts and 3 others being a look back at old skool breakbeat. Title track just about pips it as best track for me. Normal kicks with nicely laid out stab and a speeded up visions of death rhyme. The tune alternates between the elements to give a good hardcore workout bloody fist style. Must say I'm also well into "Mac Eleven". Old breakbeat style with a lovely dark bassline underpinning the entire track and nice dark synth and rap rhymes throughout. The tracks on the flip consist of one hardcore and 2 breakbeaty styled tunes. Lovely bit of rap in the "CPT" track, "Ak-47 is the tool". Don't like either of the breakbeat tracks though. "Hypnotise" has a real annoying ragga rhyme in which is a shame cause it's got a nice dark synth in the main break but the ragga is just awful, I fuckin hate ragga. Anyways if you're into the knuckles spread with claret label you've probably got this one already. If you don't know the fist boyz already pick this one up and get acquainted personally!!!!!

Curse-Timid EP-Violent #6

After Mr. Chef's killer release on violent 5 whoever was faced with following up on him was always gonna have a tough job. I ain't never heard of Curse before so I don't know if this is an alias for someone else. Curse havn't done a bad job. It ain't nowhere near the standards of #5 but it ain't have fuckin bad either. Favouurite tune has to be "Act of Grace". The beat in this tune is just killer perfect to up the intensity of your set by a notch are too and it has a couple of nice dark breaks in it too, but you can see the way it's laid out it's meant to get the crowd moving more than wow them with it's technical brilliance, nice. Also well worth a mention is "Wasted Wave". This starts off nice with good use of an effective stab but the break is what this tune is all about. Tune drops to nothing and then from nothing comes the stab except it's after being filtered to fuck and builds up and boom we're off. Then for the rest of the tune the stab is continually filtered so it ends up sounding a bit like a 303 line. "Feedback" is a good head down lets stomp this fucker out kinda tune with pacey solid kicks and the odd break for bits of feedback, surprisingly enough. This whole EP is perfect for those of you who play in the Deathchant 220 bpm kinda area, toughens up your set nicely does this little gem and the productions smooth so mixing ain't a problem, grab grab grab while the grabbings good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As is becoming the way of this page we got some more guest reviewers for ya. If ya wanna get in contact with the reviewer or whatever just click on his name, simple.

Hellfish and Producer -No More Rock And Roll- Deathchant #16

A.No More Rock and Roll (Koala Fish Mutant Bird Mix)

'No More Rock and Roll', what a fuckin tune!!! A repeated "No More..." sample, a big assed 'live'sounding kick-drum, a faded-in-and-out retarded 909, a breakdown then a tweaked up, chopped up, chewed up and spat out stab. Put it all together, add a few more stabs, more samples and a breakbeat and you`ve got one of my personal favourite DC tracks ever. Then, just when ya think thats as good as it gets theres another breakdown, silence then, OH MY GOD!!!!, What a noise!!. Think of the main 'Destined for Destruction noise, make it 10 times as hard, 20 times as bassy and 50 times as evil and nasty and ya still ain't there. On top of that comes the break, another stab, the 'No MOre...' sample, and back comes the kick to make this one hell of a fuckin record. I like this, can ya tell?

B.The Way of the Homeboy Pt2 (Winter of Discontent)

Another Deathchant tune thats buried up to its chin in Hip-Hop. Starting off is a sample lifted from an old Kung-fu film that gets cut n pasted to form the basis of a pure Hip-Hop beat, but one thats heavier and harder than most Hip-Hop ever gets. Then comes a kick so low and bassy it makes ya balls vibrate. As the track progresses all types o shit gets layed up, faded in, and faded out, stabs come and go, breaks start and stop and all gets pretty hectic. Then comes a high pitched, tweaked up squeal that contrasts perfectley with the lowness of the kick, then in comes amid-range stab that attempts to break up the fight. These build and build till the main beat is released, accompanied by a siren that dominates until the track ends with a nice little sample. In general, I think Luke and Cobbie work just as well as a tag team than as sparing partners.

DJ Hellfish- Hardcore Body Harvest- Deathchant #17

This whole release is really wierd I reckon, very original, very good, but still, very wierd aswell. If it hadn`t got Hellfish`s name on it I wouldn`t have guessed it was him, or even on Deathchant. The title track starts of with strange isolated stabs that form the main backbone. The kick comes in and the tune builds to a frantic chopped up vocal sample that lifts it from average, to wicked. Little added extras, like changes to the kick sound and alterations to the main riff keep your attention right to the end.

The better of the two tracks on offer, 'Martian Ambassador' has a long (maybe a bit too long) intro that basically is just loads of different kick drum sounds that come and go and build, through various beats, to a 'European' style stab that comes in and then slows and slows and slows to nothing. Here we get a trademark, big-assed, phat-thighed, nasty-titted, mad-faced kick in. A combination of short and drawn outstabs that work perfectly together, back comes that beat and off we go. This is a very diffrenet release for Hellfish and Deathchant that might not grab ya on the first listen but its definitely a grower so give it a chance.

Dolphin, Tox and Dare Hardcore Mafia #11

A1 Yeah Motherfucker

B1 Welcome to Slavery

B2 Voiceprint Identification

I know Producers just done HM#12 but I dont think much to it (Sorry!), so I just to reveiw this instead, which is fuckin wicked.A1 starts with a looped break and a pretty harsh kick and soon progresses to a sampled Hip-Hop section which gets breakbeats, kicks and an oldskool style twisty stab thrown at it until the whole track breaks down to a section that reminds me of the Halloween theme music. Back comes the kick, the breakbeat, various little sounds, the twisty stab and eventually the Hip-Hop section. A jam-packed tune that never gets boring.

B1 is the pick of the bunch. A kinda 'orchestral' section starts of that I can only describe as sounding like the main music from The Terminator. An oldskool breakbeat backs up the kick until we get a real dark and evil stab solo. Underpinning this is another orchestral arrangment that makes the tune sound like 21st century hammer Horror music, fuckin cool I think. And yet theres more, another orchestral section, this time with a big breakbeat holding it down, the kick and the stab that get layered up on top take the track yet another step further. Fuckin spot on!

B2 although this is good as a dark, nasty, twisted up Drum n Bass tune, if ya listen to it straight after 'Welcome to Slavery' it sorta loses its impact. It reminds me of older Metalhaedz material, tinny but fast beats backed up with only the darkest of effects and B-lines. Like I said, with the awsomeness of the other tracks, Voiceprint Identification gets a bit buried, but a very good track none the less.
