THE NIGHT

It’s night time
Everything is dark
The natural beauty of the night is showing itself
An owl hoots its hypnotising voice
All the sounds of the night sing together in cheerful harmony.

DAY VS NIGHT

In the daytime there is no beauty
Only violence and too many people
The night is peaceful, fewer people and the calm colours
The beauty and comfort of the night is wonderful.

THE FOREST

In the deep dark forest
There shone no light
With the comforting darkness and trees all around me
I sat down to think
I thought of how the nocturnal animals coped
And figured that it must be easier at night.

THE STORM

The day was as dark as midnight
With the storm directly over head
Ready to unleash its full strength
The people below cower in their homes
Hoping to wait out the storm . . . and survive

QUIET

Listen
To the silence
Not a sound
Everything is still
Nothing moves
Nothing is said
No noise is heard
Everything is mute

NOWHERE

I have gotten nowhere, just running on this street.
It takes me nowhere, but where else do I have that I can go?
Nowhere.
This endless empty street, no one living,
But where else to go?
Nowhere.

MEMORIES

In this empty, barren world
Nothing lives
Just the memories of what used to be
And what is now
I keep walking, searching
For another living soul
But I am beginning to have my doubts.

WANDERING

Wandering
Like a lost soul
Nowhere to go
Down this street
Down the next
I keep wandering
With nowhere to go

THUNDER STORMS

A light show
The sound grows
Beautiful designs
Striking white lines

TIME

Time has stopped
Everything is still
Everyone and everything is clinically dead
Breathing stops,Hearts stop
But brains continue to function.

THE LONG ROAD

The day was long and hot
The road narrow and dry
I walked that road
In search of and escape
An escape of the harsh
Reality of the world today
And of the people in it
How cruel people can be
There must be an escape
Perhaps the only escape is
Insanity or is that to only a false sense of escape
And security or is escape
Only death, to leave this
World for a better one
Or is the next world
Just as cruel
How will I ever know
Unless I search and
Discover on that long,
Long road which we call life

SNOW

Softly falling snow
You have to know
What it feels like to stand
And demand
The snow
Just stand with the snow pelting
Melting
Like a dream
It doesn’t seem
Real
But feel
The snow
And you know
It’s real
Though it doesn’t feel
Right
Just look at that sight
It’s here
Never fear

THE OWL

In the darkness of the night,
Something took flight,
Out of the woods it came,
Straight out like a flame,
Quickly moving,
Though quite soothing,
Nothing foul,
Only a beautiful owl,
Hunting for prey,
Hoping it may,
Find some food tonight,
And sleep alright,
Tomorrow,
It will show no sorrow,
For the small bunny,
Which it caught before it was sunny,
During the night,
While the owl was in flight,
And feasted upon,
Before the dawn.

THE HAWK

In the darkness of the night,
Something takes flight,
On the wings of a bird,
Yet nothing is heard,
It takes to the skies,
Towards the heavens it flies,
Gaining height,
Then with all it’s might,
It swoops down,
Close to the ground,
Hunting its prey,
Right where it lay,
Trying hard to flee,
But you see,
It is too late,
To outwit fate.

YOU’RE NOT ALONE

In the darkness, insects drone, animals settle down for
the night, and the nocturnal animals begin to creep.
Hunting, searching, watching.
You’re not alone.

THE MISSION

The young man grabbed the box of ammunition and ran
It was the only way to get supplies to the front, and he was but one man
He carried everything necessary, to the front line
He didn’t mind it, it suit him just fine
The field upon which he ran, was littered with remains
All of which, were in friendly domains
The smell of decaying flesh was overwhelming
Just the thought left him trembling
And he was glad he could go home to his parents
He thought that there could be no deterrents
For him, unlike those left lying on the ground
Not moving, not twitching, not making a sound
His was a dangerous job, doing that, being there
Sometimes he wondered why he should care
He ran from trench to trench, dodging enemy fire
Knowing that life depended on the ability not to tire
Finally when his job was done
He set out for home at a run
A fire spread through his back and he fell
He was shot and he could tell
His eyes went wide with realization
His body rigid with immobilization
He was just a name on a list
A name fading with the mist
And tomorrow they will fill his position
With another young man on a mission.

NOTHING GOES YOUR WAY

Nothing seems to be going your way
Terrible coincidences mark you as a victim of fate
A predicament you can’t escape by proceeding day to day
No matter how early you are, for opportunities you are late

It goes from bad to worse, but never gets better
There’s always more to do, and less time to do it
Routines change, once you get them down to the letter
Sometimes it gets so bad, you want to have a fit

But then they’ll know you can’t cope
So act tough and show you’re strong
Carry on though you think there’s no hope
In life you’ve got to move along

Or else you’ll get caught with no escape in the tide
A prisoner of your own soul
With indefinite time to bide
Buried deep in a big black hole

Unable to change fate and make your impression
Etched onto the surface of the world
You seem to wallow in hurt, sorrow and depression
These conceptions are to you unfurled

You want to give up, feels like nothing else matters
Don’t sink into the depths of despair
Pick up your life and mend its tatters
Keep trudging along, though it’s not fair

You carefully control all of your emotions
Hide them deep inside so they don’t show
Seem to go through life, but only follow the motions
You are at war and destiny is your foe

You’ve tried to explain, but they don’t understand
What it’s like to be caught in a downwards coil
No way to stop and nothing on which to land
Through the abyss you flounder and toil

Fate is a hard woman to balk
But you must try with all your might
No time to sit around and sulk
Stand up and with your heart you must fight

For your life and your very essence
You must struggle and you must work
Lest this be you end, your very cessance
Regarded by others as a simple quirk.
