Heat It Up with 98°
Prologue :
I don't think that I can talk much. I'm still on cloud nine from talking to 98°. Yes, I really talk to them. It's just like last night when my two friends, Zulieka, Farah and I said goodbye to 98°. They were leaving for Singapore then. To me, it was the best weekend ever in my life until they come back again (soon I hope). So, wanna hear my story. Well, here goes.....
October 8,1998 (THURSDAY) ~ Kuala Lumpur
98° boarded the plane that landed in Malaysia at night (around 8.00 pm I think). There were not many fans coz most of them have gone back. The fans started waiting for the guys since 11.00 am. In case you're wondering, I was not there. I got to know this through a fan who waited for them at the airport. Anyway, my two friends, Zulieka and Farah along with some fans were waiting for them at the hotel. Well, they got to meet Jeff, Justin and Drew. Unfortunately, Nick did not come down. They took pictures with the guys. Lucky them.....
October 9, 1998 (FRIDAY)
I traveled down to KL in the morning to meet up with my two friends. Since we got no information as what their programs are in the morning and afternoon, we stayed in the house until evening when we found out that they are going to appear/perform at a function. So, we packed up our gears and started out at around 6.00 pm. We reached the hotel at around 7.00 pm and just sat and wait. At around 10.00 pm, the guys arrived. Because that's the first time I've ever seen them since their first visit, I noticed the changes in them. Of course their hair color are different and also they looked real good in suits. I did not take a lot of pictures as I was too excited to see them.
October 10, 1998 (SATURDAY)
We were supposed to wake up at 7.00 am to start the second day of 98° chasing. But we overslept. So we went to town to buy tickets for the Penang trip tomorrow before heading down to Sunway Lagoon. At Sunway Lagoon, there were already a lot of fans waiting for the gate to open. So we amuse ourselves by drawing tattoos of 98° on our arms. Ahem! excuse me, on Farah's & Zulieka's arms coz I can't have any tattoo visible on my face or arms coz I'll be going to the 98° press conference. As usual, we waited until 1.30 pm, the gate opened. I was at the press conference then. Zulieka & Farah told me that they ran inside to get better seats.
Meanwhile, I was enjoying a sandwich and coke while waiting for 98° to show up. At around 2.45 pm, the guys came and boy, were they gorgeous. Everybody calmed down and started asking questions. I got to ask a few too. Then the Walls Feast (sponsor) presented the guys a souvenier of a bag with a T-Shirt inside. I hope it fits them. Haha! Anyway, the guys signed two huge posters and have their palms inprinted on the cement for the Sunway Lagoon "Walk Of Fame". Drew (the creative one) wrote down their names below and also the "98°" on top. Then there was a short photo session for the press. After that, off to Sunway Lagoon Amphitheatre for the showcase.
4.00 pm SUNWAY LAGOON AMPHITHEATRE - When I got there, the crowd knew that 98° had arrived. They were wild. As for me, I quickly grab a seat right in front of the stage. Then, at last the DJ presents "98°". The crowd was screaming. The show started with the "Intro". The guys came out one by one and stood with their back facing the crowd. The music started with the 98° rap that sounds like "Make it hot 98, make it hot 98". Next is the song "Heat It Up" with the four gorgeous guys heating up the party. Then, came "I Do (Cherish You)" (Nick's favorite song) with his voice so strong. "Fly With Me" was next but unfortunately it was not in the Asia album. Very catchy tune. Really love it. The guys then sang "Don't Stop The Love" from their first album. Then came "True To Your Heart" (Justin's favorite song) a cappella style. It was great. The crowd was screaming. Next came "Still" (Jeff's favorite song) and "Because Of You". Lastly, the guys presented "Invisible Man" before saying goodbye to the crowds. End of the show. End of Saturday. My friends and I went back tired but happy. We'll be seeing the guys tomorrow in Penang.....
October 11, 1998 (SUNDAY) ~ Penang
My friends and I arrived at Penang at 5.20 in the morning. My uncle came and collected us and we went for breakfast before heading to Sheraton, Penang to freshen up and also to confirm about their booking in the hotel. Next, we went to the airport and that's when we found out that the guys are travelling by bus. So, we headed back to the hotel to wait for them.
At around 1.30 pm, the bus arrived. The guys came out and was surprised to see us. We took pictures of them and with them. Next stop, One Stop Midlands Park, Penang for the 4.00 pm showcase. We had lunch at Midlands Park and then went downstairs where the stage was. I started chatting with a few fans to pass the time. They told me it's their first time meeting 98° and was very excited. At around 4.00 pm, starts with the "Intro" the guys came out one by one. (Similar to Sunway Lagoon). Then they rap before starting with "Heat It Up". Next came "I Do (Cherish You)" and "True To Your Heart" a cappella style. "Because Of You" was next before signing off with "Invisible Man". It was a short showcase.
After that, we headed back to Sheraton, Penang where there is an autograph session. By the time the guys arrived, it was so packed with fans that Zulieka and Farah had to stand on the chairs in order to take good pictures. As for me, I was squeezing in to get to the line for autographs. Finally, I got in, gave them presents, got their autographs and asked them about the bookmarks that I've left with them earlier. The guys answered me that they left it in the room and will get it for me later. During the autograph session, the guys performed "Because Of You" and "True To Your Heart" a cappella style. It was great.
Later, when the guys came down from their room to head for the airport, they gave me the bookmarks. We three crazy girls rushed to the airport to see them off. Well, we were not disappointed though. I got to take pictures with each of them, gave them hugs and kept asking them to come back again. Then we said goodbye and wish them best of luck.
Epilogue :
Later that night, I took the bus back to my hometown, Ipoh whereas Zulieka & Farah headed back to KL. It was, for me, the most memorable experience of my life. I will always remember it.
