Bradley Nowell
1968-1996
In May of 1996 Brad Nowell the lead singer for Sublime died of
a heroin overdose shocking the music world. His
death came as a shock to everyone especially with the recent
success of the bands self titled album. The songs on the new album
were both upbeat and reminiscent of promises to kick the
drug habit by Brad Nowell. Including a song that was said to be written
as if it was a letter to his newborn son about how he promised
to kick his habit. Most of all the most important contribution to the
teen scene was the smash hit "Date Rape" song, with its
uncanny lyrics the song soon became a teen icon. After his death many
southern CA bands like No Doubt, long time friends of Sublime,
helped to start a scholarship fund for Brad's son.
